Zoning, monitoring, ensuring good growth
The Northwest Forest is an ecological shield, a source of life and a cultural space of the local community, but is seriously degraded due to illegal exploitation and unsustainable development. Since 2022, PanNature has implemented the "Green Forest Up" program to restore 500 hectares of natural forest in the border area of Mai Chau (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho (Son La).
Mr. Trinh Le Nguyen - Director of the Center for People and Nature ( PanNature) and Chairman of the Vietnam Wildlife Conservation Fund - said that restoring these forest ranges not only helps restore the ecosystem but also ensures shelter for rare plant and animal species, minimizes the risk of flash floods, soil erosion and creates opportunities for livelihood development from eco-tourism, community tourism as well as exploitation of secondary forests.
However, forest restoration in this area is not easy. The steep and rough terrain of the rocky mountains makes planting and caring for young trees especially difficult. Choosing the right native tree variety and applying advanced afforestation techniques is necessary to ensure the survival and growth rate of the tree.
In addition, the success of the forest restoration program also depends largely on the cooperation of the community and businesses.
The program aims to restore 500 hectares of forest within 10 years (2022 - 2032) with native trees such as guava, slices, grass, mulberry, cinnamon... carefully selected to suit the vegetation and forest canopy characteristics here. In particular, PanNature prioritizes a recovery model with the deep participation of local people and local authorities, to ensure long-term efficiency and sustainability. In particular, in forest restoration activities in the Northwest, since 2022, PanNature has planted nearly 70,000 trees, covering more than 100 hectares of green in the area.
" PanNature - with nearly 2 decades of experience in ecosystem recovery, we will take on all the techniques, supervise and coordinate community communication" - Director of the Center for People and Nature affirmed.
Regarding the campaign of planting trees, Mr. Cao Minh Tuan - Deputy Director of the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communications (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) - said: Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with Panasonic Vietnam Co., Ltd. Panasonic is one of the businesses that actively responded to the 1 billion trees planting program that the Government issued in the period of 2020-2025.
According to Mr. Tuan, with a commitment to carry out tree planting activities to restore the ecosystem and upstream forests, the company has cooperated with the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication to successfully plant more than 1 million new trees in 20 provinces and cities across the country in 3 years.
"We also coordinate with Panasonic to create a digital map to manage 1 million planted trees in 20 provinces and cities. This map is zoning, encrypting, and updating annual images of the growth of the plant. If the plant dies, green rice will be planted. This 1 million tree is monitored for growth within 5 years and will calculate the emission reduction coefficient of each tree" - Mr. Tuan affirmed.
Calling on businesses to join hands, long-term commitments to the environment
Forest planting is not only the responsibility of the people, government or environmental organizations but also requires active participation from businesses - an important resource contributing to "Green Forests". Participating in tree planting activities not only demonstrates social responsibility but also brings economic benefits, contributing to building the image of the enterprise.
In many industries such as manufacturing, construction, energy, etc., planting trees is also a mandatory requirement in planning, e-commerce or according to local regulations. Some countries even require businesses to compensate for carbon emissions through green activities such as afforestation.
Most recently, the campaign of planting 30,000 trees "For a Green Earth" implemented by HP Vietnam in coordination with partners has also officially launched, on the occasion of Earth Day, April 22, 2025. The campaign aims to restore 50 hectares of natural forest in Hoa Binh within the framework of PanNature's "Green Forest" program. This campaign is not only an activity demonstrating the social responsibility of enterprises (CSR), but also a clear commitment to an environmentally responsible development strategy.
Cooperating in planting 30,000 trees is a way for HP to demonstrate its long-term commitment to the environment and climate change response in Vietnam. We believe that technology and sustainable development must go hand in hand to create a better future. HP is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, using recycled materials and developing green technology solutions" - Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc - General Director of HP Vietnam - shared.
