The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the city is implementing a series of key traffic infrastructure projects with a total investment of tens of thousands of billions of VND to solve the prolonged traffic congestion in the eastern region, including Thu Duc City and neighboring areas.
The largest of these projects is the expansion of National Highway 13, from Binh Trieu Bridge to the border of Binh Duong province, with a total length of nearly 6 km.
According to the plan, the project will combine road expansion and construction of a 3.7 km long elevated road, starting from Binh Trieu intersection to Binh Phuoc intersection.
The elevated road will have four lanes, while the parallel road below will have three lanes on each side. At the same time, two-way underpasses will be built at important intersections such as Binh Loi and Binh Phuoc bridges.
The total investment for the entire project is nearly 20,000 billion VND, of which site clearance costs account for more than 14,500 billion VND.
To ensure consistency, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed expanding two key routes, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Dinh Bo Linh, from now until 2030.
Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street, 2 km long from Hang Xanh to Binh Trieu Bridge, will be widened to 30 m, including the section passing through Mien Dong Bus Station. At the Dai Liet Si intersection, the city will build a roundabout combined with an underpass with a total investment of about 7,000 billion VND.
Dinh Bo Linh Street will also be widened to 25m on a section of more than 2km from Pham Van Dong intersection to Dien Bien Phu. In parallel with the road expansion, the project will also build a new 6-lane Binh Trieu Bridge, with a total investment of nearly 2,900 billion VND.
Ho Chi Minh City is also preparing to start construction on two sections of Ring Road 2 with a total length of more than 6 km in 2025.
The first section, 3.5 km long, from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue (old Hanoi Highway), will be implemented first with an investment capital of about VND9,328 billion. The second section, 2.8 km long, from Vo Nguyen Giap to Pham Van Dong Street, will have an investment capital of VND4,543 billion.
Beltway 3, the main route connecting the Southeast region, is also being accelerated. The section through Ho Chi Minh City is more than 47 km long, of which the section through Thu Duc City is more than 14 km long, designed as an elevated road with 4 lanes.
This route will connect from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Tan Van intersection (Binh Duong) and is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2025.
Along with that, two major intersections in the East are being heavily invested in. An Phu intersection, an important gateway to Thu Duc City, has now completed Ba Dat bridge and Giong Ong To 2 bridge after two years of construction.
The entire project, with a total investment of more than VND3,400 billion, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, not only reducing traffic congestion but also improving traffic connectivity to major ports and Long Thanh airport.
Not far away, the My Thuy intersection is also expected to help reduce traffic jams and accidents at the gateway to Cat Lai port - the largest port in the country in terms of cargo volume.
The project with a total investment of more than 3,600 billion VND has completed some underpass and overpass items in the first phase.
However, the project was delayed due to difficulties in site clearance. In April 2024, the project was restarted with the construction of Ky Ha 4 Bridge and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
