Implementing the streamlining policy, the army completed adjusting over 2,700 organizations; built over 1,200 organizational and staffing charts in a streamlined direction.

As Lao Dong reported, speaking to the press on the occasion of the Spring of At Ty 2025, General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense - affirmed that in 2025, the army will continue to adjust the organization of the force to be lean, compact, and strong according to Resolution No. 05 of the Politburo and the direction of the Steering Committee summarizing Resolution No. 18 on the arrangement of the apparatus of the political system "Lean - Compact - Strong - Effective - Effective - Efficient".

Accordingly, in addition to improving the quality of performing tasks and regular work, ensuring readiness to fight and win, the army focuses on implementing breakthroughs well, especially basically completing the adjustment of force organization, building a strong, lean, and modern army.

Regarding the work of streamlining the apparatus, speaking to the press, Lieutenant General Dao Tuan Anh - Deputy Director of the National Defense Academy - said that after the end of the war of national liberation and defense of the Fatherland, the standing army was reduced, demobilized, sent to vocational training, returned to their localities, and continued the task of economic development.

Military region units were also reduced, army corps in military regions were dissolved, and fully-equipped divisions were converted and reduced into economic, defense, and permanent framework units.

According to Lieutenant General Dao Tuan Anh, this is a step to build and develop the military force in accordance with the nature of peacetime and gradually build the army in the direction of being lean, compact, and strong.

Since the end of the resistance war against the US to save the country, in response to the need to protect the Fatherland in new conditions, the army has made major adjustments to its organization and forces. From 11 military regions and 2 city commands, it was reduced to 8 military regions. Especially after the war to protect the border, the army dissolved a number of army corps in the military regions. Some divisions with enough troops became permanent divisions.

In 2008, the Capital Military Region was organized into the Hanoi Capital Command, significantly reducing the number of troops, ensuring the maintenance of a reasonable number of troops in the direction of being lean, compact, and strong.

The latest updated data as of the end of June 2024 shows that the entire army adjusted over 2,700 organizations; built over 1,200 organizational and staffing charts in a streamlined direction.

Up to now, the entire army has newly established a number of units under the Air Defense - Air Force, the Navy and other branches, to contribute to enhancing the strength of the forces moving straight towards modernity.

Dissolve vocational schools and some agencies and units with overlapping functions and tasks or functions and tasks that are no longer suitable in the new situation. At the same time, transfer some agencies under the Ministry of National Defense to the General Staff and General Departments; transfer some units of the army corps to military regions and arms; merge and reorganize some hospitals and transport brigades of military regions, merge logistics and technical departments at all levels into logistics and technical departments.

Most recently, the army dissolved the 1st and 2nd Corps, establishing the 12th Corps; completed the dissolution of the 3rd and 4th Corps, establishing the 34th Corps; merged the General Department of Logistics and the General Department of Engineering into the General Department of Logistics and Engineering.
