Drug testing with drivers to protect passengers from departure points

Lê Thanh Phong |

Da Nang traffic police quickly check drugs for drivers and assistants at the City Central Bus Station before the bus departs.

During the inspection, dozens of drivers and assistants were tested quickly and all gave negative results.

Traffic safety must start from the driver. A passenger car carrying dozens of passengers, if the driver loses control of his behavior, the consequences can be disastrous.

Therefore, drug testing for drivers before leaving the station is not an administrative procedure, but a direct risk prevention measure for the community.

Many particularly serious traffic accidents in recent years have been related to drivers using drugs or stimulants.

Drugs affect the nervous system, users may fall into hallucinations, lose judgment, react slowly or behave abnormally.

For passenger cars, each trip not only has property but also the lives of dozens of people entrusted to the driver.

Therefore, drug testing for drivers right from the bus station is a way that needs to be supported.

However, to prevent the risk of drugs in transportation activities, just checking drivers is not enough. It is necessary to look directly at the responsibility of transport businesses.

Businesses must be responsible for the health conditions, working hours and compliance with safety regulations of employees.

A driver having to drive continuously for many hours, lack of sleep, prolonged stress is also a risk of traffic unsafety.

If businesses loosen management, do not conduct periodic health checks, and do not supervise drivers, the risk of accidents will always be present.

In addition, drug inspections need to be carried out regularly, unexpectedly and on a large scale. Not only at bus stations but also on routes, at transport enterprises and vehicle gathering points.

Functional agencies regularly and strictly inspect, drug users will not dare to hold the steering wheel, and businesses will not dare to neglect management responsibilities.

Da Nang is implementing the goal of building a drug-free city by 2030. In that goal, preventing drugs from entering transportation activities is of particular importance.

Drug testing drivers before departure to protect passengers, and at the same time contribute to building a safe and civilized traffic environment and pushing dangers out of social life.
