Worry about ongoing landslides during the rainy season
On August 9, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Xuan Tuan (resident of Quang Phu village, Thach Quang commune, Thanh Hoa province) said that for more than a year, his family has been worried about landslides right behind his house.
According to Mr. Tuan, due to the impact of the 2025 storm, the hill behind the house was seriously landslide, soil and rocks spilled down. The landslide also caused many cracks and peeling tile floors to appear in the family's house.
Fearing that landslides would continue to occur, affecting the property and safety of family members, immediately after the incident occurred, Mr. Tuan filed a petition requesting local authorities and functional sectors to support the handling of the landslide area.
I have repeatedly requested functional sectors to consider and resolve it, but so far the matter has not had a handling direction. About 10m away from the landslide location there is a 35kV power pole. To handle the landslide area, it is necessary to level the hill, pull down from above, but this risks affecting the power pole located on the top of the hill" - Mr. Tuan said.
According to Mr. Tuan, due to being stuck in an electric pole, the family has not been able to handle the landslide area for a long time. Meanwhile, the 2026 rainy season has arrived, making the whole family even more worried, there are nights of heavy rain where they dare not sleep for fear that soil and rocks will continue to collapse into the house.
Faced with the above situation, Mr. Tuan's family continued to send petitions to the local government, the electricity sector and the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, hoping for a handling plan. However, to date, the remedy has not been implemented.
Difficulties in funding for moving power poles
According to Mr. Tuan, after the family petitioned, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued a document requesting relevant units to inspect and consider resolving it.
However, according to information received by the family, Thach Thanh Power Company assessed that the power pole currently shows no signs of abnormality and is still operating stably. If the family needs to move the power pole to prevent and combat landslides, they must proactively allocate funds and arrange appropriate installation locations.
Specific transportation costs must be surveyed, designed and estimated by a unit according to regulations. Thach Thanh Power Company agrees with the plan to move the power pole, provide professional support and cut off electricity for connection" - Mr. Tuan said.
With the above plan, Mr. Tuan said that his family is unlikely to have enough resources to implement it because the cost of moving the power pole may exceed their ability to pay. Therefore, the family continues to petition functional agencies to consider and have support plans to soon handle the landslide area.
Mr. Phan Duc Thanh - Head of Thach Thanh Power Company - said that the location of the power pole is about 10m away from the landslide area, is not affected and still ensures technical requirements. Therefore, the electricity industry cannot allocate funds to move the power pole.
The Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment and local authorities to coordinate in resolving it. Thach Quang Commune People's Committee has also agreed on a plan to build dozens of meters of embankment in the landslide area, because in addition to Mr. Tuan's household, there are many other affected households" - Mr. Thanh said.
Also according to Mr. Thanh, in case of needing to move the above-mentioned power pole, Mr. Tuan's family and Thach Quang Commune People's Committee must have a written proposal, which determines the plan for site allocation and funding. On that basis, Thanh Hoa Power Company will consider; if approved, then the move of the power pole will be carried out.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Huy Duong - Chairman of Thach Quang Commune People's Committee - said that the landslide situation behind Mr. Tuan's house occurred from the rainy and storm season of 2025. The family has repeatedly petitioned the local authorities, functional sectors and Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee. After that, the province requested relevant units to inspect and consider handling.
According to the assessment of Thach Thanh Power Company, the landslide location currently does not affect the power pole. Therefore, if the family wants to move the pole, they must pay for the cost themselves. Currently, the commune has sent a report to the Provincial People's Committee and is continuing to coordinate with the electricity sector to evaluate once again, thereby finding a suitable solution" - Mr. Duong informed.
