An Giang - Phu Quoc National Park forest rangers and people have coordinated to bring the flower iguana back to the forest safely.

On August 15, the Phu Quoc National Park Management Board (An Giang) coordinated with local people to successfully re-release an individual of the Flower Macau (belonging to the Vietnam Red Book) weighing 20kg and 2m long back to its natural environment.

Previously, at 8:30 am on August 14, when Mr. Hoang Trung Thong was working at a restaurant in Phu Quoc, he suddenly discovered a scallop crawling into the kitchen area. Because this is a large wild animal, it was carefully kept, and at the same time contacted Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, a local animal lover.

According to Mr. Binh, this is a flower iguana species listed in the Vietnam Red Book, so he has temporarily taken care of it and contacted the Phu Quoc National Park Management Board. After checking the health and determining that the individual was completely unharmed, this morning, August 15, the forest rangers of Phu Quoc National Park, together with Mr. Thong and Mr. Binh, coordinated to bring the flower iguana back to the forest safely.

The appearance of the large scallop individual also contributes to affirming the extremely rich biodiversity value at Phu Quoc National Park, which belongs to the World Biosphere Reserve along the coast and islands of An Giang (recognized by UNESCO).

The fact that people discover, proactively protect and hand over wildlife to Phu Quoc National Park not only helps conserve rare individuals but also shows the increasing awareness of protecting the ecological environment of the people of Ngoc Island.
