In recent days, some social networking sites have posted information reflecting tourists' opinions on the situation of insecurity and disorder in the Tam Thang square area (also known as Thuy Van square, Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
For example, according to information reflected from account T.N, at about 7 pm on July 12, a group of 7-8 people appeared in this area with acts of staging, jostling, pushing tourists to commit robbery and theft of property (chains) professionally, causing panic and affecting the image of tourism in the locality. Some other accounts also posted content reflecting a similar situation.
Mr. Vu Hong Thuan - Chairman of Vung Tau Ward People's Committee - said that the local government has grasped the above information, and at the same time has a document directing functional agencies to urgently get involved in verifying.
In which, it is proposed that the Vung Tau Ward Police take the lead and coordinate with relevant units to urgently verify and investigate to clarify the information reflected on social networks. At the same time, organize the extraction of security camera data in Tam Thang square area and surrounding areas to identify, track down, arrest and strictly handle the group of subjects staging theft in accordance with the law.
Strengthen the deployment of patrol forces during peak hours, focusing on crowded tourist attractions to promptly detect, prevent and handle pickpocketing, theft, robbery, disturbing public order and other violations of the law.
In addition, Vung Tau Ward People's Committee also requested the Traffic Management and Technical Infrastructure Center (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) to coordinate with Vung Tau Ward Police to provide and extract data from the public surveillance camera system in Tam Thang square area to serve the investigation work. As well as conduct a review of the public lighting system in the square area, promptly overcome dark corners and obscured views to limit the operating conditions of criminals.
