On the afternoon of June 23, leaders of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces had a working session to accelerate the progress of site clearance and resettlement of the Hoang Lien Pass Road Tunnel Project.
The working session was chaired by Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Sinh, with a delegation from Lai Chau province led by Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Trong Hai.
The Hoang Lien Pass road tunnel project is a project connecting the Sa Pa area with Tam Duong, passing through the territory of the two provinces, including the Hoang Lien National Park area.

The total land use area of the project is about 73.25 ha, including many types of land such as residential land, production forest land, protection forest, agricultural land and unused land. The project is divided into two component projects, with a total investment of more than 3,300 billion VND.
In which, Lai Chau is responsible for construction and site clearance in the province, while Lao Cai is responsible for compensation, support and resettlement in areas under its management.
At the working session, Lai Chau requested Lao Cai to soon remove obstacles related to cadastral maps, compensation plans for crops under the forest canopy and organize land recovery, in order to ensure the progress of site handover.
In particular, many areas have not been able to deploy inventory because the cadastral map has not been completed and there is no policy to handle assets of trees, crops, especially cardamom, peach, and plum trees of people.
The current time is the rainy season, cutting down, collecting and transporting forest products is facing greater pressure on progress, causing the risk of slow site handover to increase.

Lao Cai affirmed that it will closely coordinate with Lai Chau, and at the same time requested relevant departments and branches to urgently complete procedures, soon submit plans to handle crop assets and support people according to regulations.
Provincial leaders also agreed to request relevant units to coordinate with Hoang Lien National Park to complete the asset handling plan before the deadline of June 30, 2026, creating a basis for implementing the next steps.
Regarding problems with planning, compensation and landfills, Lao Cai province assigned specialized units to coordinate with localities to review and advise on appropriate adjustment plans, ensuring the overall progress of the project.
