On the evening of September 11, information from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province, up to now, has determined 5 dead, 13 missing, 11 seriously injured in the landslide in Nam Luc commune.
Previously, on the afternoon of September 10, a landslide occurred in Nam Tong village, Nam Luc commune, burying 8 houses under rocks and soil.
Immediately after receiving the information, a working group from Lao Cai province arrived at the scene. However, it took nearly 4 hours to travel upstream from Bao Nhai on the Chay River to reach the village. Currently, the work of overcoming the consequences and searching for the missing people is being urgently deployed.
Also according to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Bac Ha district, regarding the case of many households in Coc Lau commune going missing, this afternoon (September 11), local authorities found 17 households in Kho Vang village camping on a piece of land near the village.
Previously, on September 9, when a landslide risk was detected in the village but due to lack of phone signal to inform the commune authorities, 17 households (over 70 people) in Khe Vang village, Coc Lau commune proactively moved to a nearby plot of land to build temporary shelters.
“Immediately after receiving the information, the commune authorities sent functional forces to transport food to help people stabilize their lives and guide people on disaster prevention and control plans. Currently, Kho Vang village is located in a dangerous area with a high risk of landslides, so it needs to be carefully surveyed before people can return home…”, said Mr. Nguyen Quoc Nghi, Secretary of the Party Committee of Coc Lau commune.
It is known that currently, Coc Lau commune has 3 people suspected of being missing, local authorities have deployed forces to search and rescue.
According to statistics up to the end of September 11, storm No. 3 in Lao Cai killed 72 people; 111 people were missing and 70 people were injured.
The most serious damage was the flash flood in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, which injured 17 people, killed 30 people and left 65 people missing.
