On September 11, Lao Dong Newspaper's reporter recorded at Bao Yen District General Hospital, doctors and nurses were trying to treat survivors of the flash flood in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune.
Deputy Director of Bao Yen District General Hospital Ngo Van Hoang said: “Currently, the hospital has received 17 victims of the landslide in Lang Nu village. The unit has also sent many doctors to the locations to support emergency care.
The victims are being actively treated and their health is gradually recovering. As for the 5 seriously injured patients, they have been transferred to Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital for treatment."
At the hospital, there were many people taking care of their loved ones while waiting every minute and every second for news of those missing in the terrible flash flood that happened the day before.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh (residing in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune) is still in shock after her daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren and mother-in-law were buried under layers of rocks and soil.
“I also live in the same village as my children, but I live about 1km away from the landslide, so I was lucky to escape. At 6am on September 10, when I heard that the whole village had been buried by a landslide, my legs went weak and I couldn’t believe what had happened,” Ms. Thanh said sadly.
According to Ms. Thanh, the flash flood took the lives of five family members. The only survivor found by authorities was her granddaughter, who is in first grade this year.
Ms. Hoang Thi Canh (living in Lang Nu village, taking care of a relative at the hospital) said: “On the day the flash flood happened, I was working outside Pho Rang town so I escaped. But all my relatives living in the village were not so lucky.”
According to this woman, because the entire power system and telecommunications infrastructure were cut off, she currently has no information about the situation of the villagers.
Previously, the flash flood on the morning of September 10 buried 37 households with 158 people in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district.
By 2:00 p.m. on September 11, authorities had taken 17 people to the hospital for emergency care, 30 bodies had been found, and 65 people were still missing.
In addition to local forces, Military Region 2 sent 300 officers and soldiers of the main regiment to participate in search and rescue work.
Currently, many relief shipments are being sent to Lang Nu, to promptly support people and search forces.
