HCMC - The funeral service for Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam, wife of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, was solemnly held at the Southern National Funeral Home (HCMC).

On April 10, at the Southern National Funeral Home (Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City), Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh led a delegation of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to pay a funeral to Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam.

In a solemn atmosphere, the delegation offered incense and expressed their deep condolences for the passing of the outstanding female intellectual - the wife of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet. Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, on behalf of the Government, sent his deepest condolences to the family, relatives, colleagues and students of Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam.

Taking a funeral book, Deputy Prime Minister wrote: “Extremely mourning for Professor, Dr. Phan Luong Cam, the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet. With 82 years of age, Professor and Doctor has made practical contributions to the science of the country and awarded many noble rewards by the Party and the State: the Third -class Labor Medal; The Representative of the National Science and Technology", the National Award of the National Awards donated to collectives and individuals with excellent achievements in research and application of science in real life, bringing many benefits in economic and social fields and being awarded many medals, certificates of merit and other noble rewards of ministries, branches, central and local. According to the representative of the family, Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam is being sold at the National Funeral Home (No. 5 Pham Ngu Lao, Ward 3, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City). During the funeral process, the family exempted the cigarette and the funeral organizers prepared a wreath for the delegation when visiting.

The memorial service will take place at 8:15 a.m. on April 12, after which the coffin of Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam will be buried at Ho Chi Minh City Cemetery.

Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam was born in 2018 in Thua Thien Hue. She is a famous scientist in the field of electrification - metal corrosion in Vietnam and is the wife of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet.

In 1968, she was sent by the State to work as a graduate student at Moscow National University (University of M.V. Lomonosov), former Soviet Union. After successfully defending her doctoral thesis in electromechanical - metal corrosion, in early 1973 she returned home and continued teaching and research at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

She was the first female Professor of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the founder and Director of the Center for corrosion Research and Metallurgy Protection, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (now Hanoi University of Science and Technology) from 1996 until 2008 when she retired.

Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam is also one of the founders and first President of the Vietnam Association of Science - Technology of corrosion and metal protection (before her death, she was the honorary President of the Association). With this event, for the first time, a Vietnam Science and Technology Association has a female president.

Prof. Dr. Phan Luong Cam was also President of the Asian-Pacific Association of materials and corrosives for the 1999 - 2001 term, President of the 11th Asia-Pacific Corrosives International Conference held in Ho Chi Minh City in 1999, and a member of the international advisory board of many other Asia-Pacific Corrosives International conferences.

Ms. Phan Luong Cam received the Kovalevskaia Award in 1995, the Labor Medal and many medals and certificates of merit for her contributions to the cause of education, the cause of science and technology, the cause of women's progress and child protection.
