Thousands of excuses to justify violations
On October 2, the Traffic Police Department (Hanoi City Police) coordinated with the Ba Dinh District Police (Hanoi) to deploy a working group to implement a peak period of ensuring traffic safety and order (TTATGT) for school-age children. This is the first coordination period between the two units in this peak month.
Accordingly, the working group includes forces from Road Traffic Police Team No. 2 (Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police), Traffic Police Team, Cong Vi Ward Police (Ba Dinh District Police). The working group has set up a checkpoint at the Lieu Giai - Phan Ke Binh - Van Phuc intersection.
According to the reporter, within just a few minutes of carrying out the task, a series of violations were discovered and handled. In particular, the Working Group focused on groups of students and parents who violated the main errors, such as: Not wearing helmets; carrying more people than the prescribed number; parents giving their children motorbikes to use when they did not meet the conditions...
Most violators are fully aware of their violations. For example, Mr. N.T.H (Tay Ho, Hanoi) drove his two children, both of whom are in primary school, to school on his motorbike. However, neither of Mr. H’s children were wearing helmets.
"I understand very well the risks that can occur when not wearing a helmet, and my family has prepared helmets for the two children. But this morning it was cold, my children woke up late, and I was in a hurry so I forgot to put helmets on them," said Mr. N.T.H.
Besides, many parents are also subjective because they think their house is only 2-3km from the school so they do not put helmets on their children.
But there are also students who admit that "even though they know the rules, they rarely wear helmets."
"I know I have to wear a helmet when riding an electric bike, but normally when I go to school I don't wear one and just hang it on the bike because the distance from home to school is very short. I only wear it when I go far away," said B.T.L, a 9th grade student.
Talking to reporters, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Khanh Toan - Officer of the Traffic Police Team (Ba Dinh District Police) said that the task of ensuring traffic safety, in addition to handling violations, raising awareness through propaganda work is indispensable.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Khanh Toan, parents must understand that they are role models for their children. If parents violate the law now, it will have serious consequences for their children's future in the long run. Therefore, parents need to change their awareness from the smallest things such as wearing helmets when riding for themselves and their children.
It is necessary to replicate the model "Traffic safety school gate"
Recorded during rush hour at the gate of Nguyen Ba Ngoc Primary School (Ba Dinh District) - one of the traffic safety school gate models in Ba Dinh District, although the traffic volume is very large, parents when taking their children to school still have enough space to temporarily stop their vehicles, ensuring safety and not obstructing traffic.
Accordingly, a section of the sidewalk outside the school gate is painted to mark temporary parking spots for parents to pick up/drop off their children. The school’s security forces and the local police are also on duty to direct traffic and ensure the safety of students.
Sharing with reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thien Luong feels extremely secure when taking her child to school.
"The school gate is very airy, the security guards come out to welcome the children. I also really hope that this safe school gate model will continue to be replicated," Ms. Luong shared.
According to Major Trinh Van Thanh - Police officer of Cong Vi ward (Ba Dinh district), the safe school gate model has shown clear effectiveness when implemented, helping students to enter and exit school safely, especially during rush hour. It is necessary to replicate this model.
"This model not only ensures safety for students and parents picking up/dropping off students, but is also a form of propaganda to the people about obeying traffic safety laws," Major Trinh Van Thanh shared.
