As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, in recent months, the two banks of the Red River passing through Phu Tho province have continuously experienced landslides, causing damage to crops, property and threatening the safety of transport infrastructure works and many households living along the river.
On the right bank of the Red River passing through Hien Quan commune, a section of the riverbank and embankment corresponding to Km53 - Km54+300 was recorded to have strong landslides, the length of the landslide section was about 1.3km, locally there were landslides to the side of the construction and the fence of households.
In particular, in the area of Vuc Long Pagoda and Vuc Truong Communal House, landslides have occurred in the pagoda yard, some cracks have appeared in the yard; some areas of land, architectural objects, trees, and crops in the area were swept away; directly threatening over 50 households...
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper in late November, there have been 2 service roads connected from Provincial Road 315 to the riverbank to serve the construction work. Large trucks carrying boulders move down to the landslide area, pouring rocks as far as the excavator can at the leveling embankment.
It can be seen that right after the embankment was built, the Red River silt has quickly filled the embankment foot. The two historical relics, Vuc Long Pagoda and Vuc Truong Communal House, have not yet had any large landslides or cracks.
Ms. Do Thi Nhung - a resident of Hien Quan commune - shared that in recent years, the Red River bank has passed through areas with frequent landslides, previously in area 1 (in Bac Son commune, the old Tam Nong district), landslides, causing the concrete road in area 1 to be repaired several times a year, the cracks approaching the fence of people's houses, threatening the safety of many households living along the road (now repaired).
"Now, when the riverbank continues to erode, it makes us people worried, because this landslide section is very close to the asphalt road (provincial road 319), many houses and Vuc Truong communal house, Vuc Long pagoda... hope that the contractor will speed up the construction progress of the embankment, preventing the landslides to continue" - Ms. Nhung confided.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Kieu Quoc Phong - Chairman of Hien Quan Commune People's Committee - said that immediately after the incident of riverbank and embankment landslides in the section Km53 - Km54+300 through the area, Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee issued an Order to urgently construct the project.
"For more than a week now, after the above agencies have completed the construction investment procedures, the embankment to urgently handle the landslide has been quickly constructed, protecting land, people's assets and 2 provincial-level historical relics" - Mr. Phong shared.
Previously, on November 13, the Department of Irrigation and Water Resources (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Phu Tho province) issued Decision No. 201, approving the results of the bidding for the project's packages: Emergency handling of the incident of bank erosion, right dike embankment of Thao river section Km53 - km54+300 of Hien Quan commune and section Km71+300 - km72+300 of Tam Nong commune, Phu Tho province (currently under construction).
According to the decision, 4 bidding packages have approved the results of contractor selection according to the shortened process. In which, the contractor assigned to win the construction package is Tu Lap Construction Company Limited, the winning bid price (temporarily calculated) is more than 64.7 billion VND.
According to the documents, the implementation period of the package and contract is 140 days (to be completed before March 31, 2026).
