On June 14, information from the Office of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just signed and issued a document requesting agencies, units, and localities to strengthen disaster response, prevent child drowning, and ensure fire safety in the province.
According to statistics, from the beginning of 2026 to now, there have been: 12 fires in the province, property damage of about 1.283 billion VND.
After a prolonged heat wave, the weather in the area is likely to experience many extreme phenomena such as thunderstorms, hail, lightning, strong gusts of wind. In mountainous areas, the risk of flash floods, landslides and landslides is still high.
Along with that, at the present time, students are entering summer vacation, participating in recreational activities (especially in rural areas) without the supervision and management of families and schools, there is a risk of tragic child drowning accidents.
In the first 6 months of the year, in Lao Cai, there were 5 consecutive drowning accidents, killing 11 people...
Faced with the above situation, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee requested localities to urgently review areas at risk of landslides, especially on mountainous traffic routes, positive and negative taluy areas and places where natural disasters have occurred.

Localities must proactively put up warning signs, stretch danger ropes, and at the same time develop plans to evacuate people and property out of areas at risk of being affected by floods, flash floods and landslides.
Police, military forces and functional sectors are assigned to fully prepare forces and vehicles to be ready to participate in rescue and relief when situations occur. The agricultural sector focuses on inspecting and early warning of forest fire risks, guiding people to implement prevention and protection measures for forests in the dry season.
The Provincial People's Committee also requested communes and wards to strengthen propaganda and mobilize families to improve their responsibility to manage and supervise children during the summer; ensure that 100% of households with children are disseminated knowledge and skills to prevent drowning.
Localities continue to review all areas with potential drowning risks such as hydropower reservoirs, ponds, lakes, dams, rivers, streams; organize the installation of warning signs and barriers at dangerous locations for people to easily recognize.
Along with that, press agencies, unions and functional forces promote propaganda on disaster prevention skills, escape skills when flash floods and landslides occur, and measures to prevent and combat child drowning, contributing to raising prevention awareness in the community.
