On September 12, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province issued a directive to strengthen measures to ensure the safety of traffic bridges during the rainy and stormy season in 2024 in the locality. Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province signed a Directive on strengthening measures to ensure the safety of traffic bridges during the rainy and stormy season in 2024 in Quang Ngai province.
According to the Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, the recent storm No. 3 and subsequent floods have caused huge losses in human lives and property of the people and the State in the northern provinces; in which the collapse of Phong Chau bridge (Phu Tho province), landslides on traffic routes and flash floods have left many people dead and missing.
At the same time, according to the assessment of the Quang Ngai Hydrometeorological Station, the development of natural disasters in the coming time is very complicated, the risk of storms, rains and floods occurring in the province is very high. Therefore, in order to proactively take measures to be ready to respond to natural disasters, the Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee requested departments, branches, sectors and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to continue to thoroughly grasp and fully implement the relevant instructions of the province.
In particular, the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities urgently organize the review, inspection and assessment of all bridge works in the area under their management responsibility (especially river crossings and temporary bridges) to promptly detect and have immediate solutions to handle works at risk of unsafety.
Based on the actual status of the project, the situation of rain and flood, decide to temporarily suspend the operation of bridge projects that do not ensure or have the risk of traffic safety; at the same time, coordinate with the Department of Transport, the Provincial Police and functional forces to ensure traffic flow, and guide people to travel smoothly and safely.
Compile a list of weak bridges and temporary bridges that need to be renovated, repaired, or replaced (arranged in order of priority of importance) along with funding needs, and send them to the Departments of Transport, Planning and Investment, and Finance for compilation and submission to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and allocation of funding to remedy the situation.
