Leading reporters to visit the family's field of more than 3,000 m2, Ms. Vu Thi Hoi, village 7, Hai Tien commune happily said: "My field has been replanted after 4 times of acidic and salty washing. To get this result, over the past time, the family has persevered with many measures, such as: using cement and phosphorus to sprinkle on the soil or draining the water, injecting fresh water to soak and then draining again, repeating. For every 1,000 m2, there is a 25kg bag of phosphate, the cost of plowing is 500,000 VND/1,000 m2, a total of 3-4 times of plowing, down to 80 kg of seed."
"However, people around here as well as myself have not yet received the second round of payments from businesses to support households in overcoming damages."
Before, the family also received an amount of 10 million VND, the first payment to wash the salty pot. For the past 3 years, we have not been able to plant or harvest anything, but this rice field land previously had a yield of 2.5 - 3 quintals/acre. Now, like last year, the field's productivity is only 30% compared to before" - Ms. Vu Thi Hoi added.
Ms. Vu Thi Hoi's concerns are also the concerns of many people in Village 7, Hai Tien Commune, Mong Cai City.
In August 2021, Van Don Infrastructure Investment and Development Company Limited is the investor of the Tien Yen - Mong Cai expressway. During the construction process, the 5-gate culvert item to prevent salt water had an incident that caused the Sea water spilled into rice and crop land, affecting 16 hectares of fields of 56 households.
After the incident, the investor agreed to support people in overcoming the damage in 2 phases. However, up to now, people have only received the first round of support.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - Chairman of Hai Tien Commune People's Committee - said: "Through review, the 2024 crop area, Village 7 cultivates over 15 hectares, of which 7 hectares of salinity have been treated by people to wash away the salinity. and cultivated normally. In particular, the fields of 56 households affected by saltwater intrusion have cultivated both crops. However, there are also cases where the land is cultivable but in this case people have not cultivated it yet."
According to information from the People's Committee of Mong Cai City, on January 17, 2024, the People's Committee of Hai Tien commune issued report No. 08/BC-UBND on payment to support the area of agricultural land affected by saline intrusion in village 7, Hai commune. Due to the impact of the construction of Van Don - Mong Cai Expressway and requesting Van Don Infrastructure Investment and Development Company Limited to pay the remaining amount (2nd installment) of 431.6 million VND according to plan No. 247 /PA-PKT so that people can stabilize their lives and develop the economy.
However, although the City People's Committee urged many times, the company has not yet been able to arrange funds to pay the people. In the coming time, the City People's Committee will continue to urge investors to implement this content.
