Cau Lau Bridge is at risk of being washed away
On the afternoon of October 28, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Pham Duc An chaired an urgent meeting in the midst of floods, responding to the needs of more than 65,000 flooded households.

As of 6:00 p.m. this afternoon (October 28), the Thu Bon River is still rising and flowing rapidly, causing the entire Cau Lau bridge area (connecting the old Quang Nam - Da Nang on National Highway 1A) to be deeply flooded, with water rolling right at the bridge abutment.
Mr. Nguyen Ha Nam, Director of the Department of Construction of Da Nang, was concerned: "If upstream hydropower plants continue to release floodwaters, Cau Lau bridge could be "bleached" by water. The water has risen close to the bridge surface, the risk is very high".

In response to this warning, Chairman of the City People's Committee Pham Duc An directed the Department of Construction to immediately calculate emergency plans, including the worst situation: "Do not let incidents happen in a passive situation. We must ensure the safety of the project and people's travel".
65,000 households are deeply flooded, 5 national highways are paralyzed
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, more than 65,000 households in the whole area were deeply flooded, 1,429 households (5,674 people) were evacuated. Although no human casualties have been recorded, the traffic system is seriously paralyzed.
Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said: "There are 5 national highways that are completely cut off, of which the Ho Chi Minh road section through Lo Xo Pass cannot be used. 9 provincial roads were eroded and deeply flooded".

Meanwhile, upstream hydropower plants are releasing large floods, especially Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant. "We require the reservoirs to follow the correct procedures, the flow to and from the reservoir must be the same, avoiding concentrating water downstream," said Mr. Hung.
Da Nang Chairman: It is impossible to rescue and relocate people every year during the flood season Along with the urgent allocation of 10 billion VND for disaster response and recovery work, Da Nang requires units on duty 24/7, preparing means, food, and necessities to support people in flooded areas.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Pham Duc An requested that we must not be subjective, must closely monitor floods, ensure that people are not hungry, lack clean water, and have no safe shelter.
"It is necessary to consider fundamental solutions, it is impossible to repeat rescue and relocation every year. We must review the reservoir operation process, calculate long-term resettlement and plant ecological restoration forests, Mr. An emphasized.
The City Military Command mobilized nearly 6,200 officers and soldiers to coordinate with the Police, Border Guard and localities to organize rescue and evacuate people at deeply flooded and landslide areas. 580 checkpoints were set up at locations with strong and dangerous water flows.
