People worry about accidents because of degraded embankments
For many months, people living in Tan Ngai ward, Vinh Long province have continuously reflected on the situation that the Co Chien river embankment line has many subsidence and cracks but is slow to be repaired. The prolonged damage locations make it difficult for people to travel and exercise.
According to records, many sections of the embankment surface are deeply subsided, concrete cracks are separated into patches, in some places forming holes close to the road edge. Local people have to take advantage of tree branches and warning objects to remind pedestrians to pay attention, especially in the evening.
Mr. Tran Chi Cong - a resident who regularly exercises along the embankment - said that the subsidence situation has appeared for more than 1 year. Although people have repeatedly complained to the hamlet and local authorities, many locations have not been repaired, causing anxiety when traveling.

The dyke line is a place where many pedestrians and exercisers gather every afternoon, so subsidence points pose a risk of falls, especially for the elderly and children," Mr. Cong added.
Sharing the same worry, Mr. Le Minh Thanh, Long Chau ward, said that the lighting system on the embankment line is currently no longer working in many sections after bad guys cut and stole power lines. Loss of light at night makes the area dark, causing a sense of insecurity for people.
In the evening, many sections are pitch dark, while the embankment surface is subsided, so it is very dangerous. People hope to repair it soon to ensure safety, especially in the rainy season," Mr. Thanh said.
31 subsidence points appear on the embankment line
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Van Cong Chi - Vice Chairman of Tan Ngai Ward People's Committee, Vinh Long province - said that the Co Chien River embankment through the locality is more than 3,000m long. Through review, 31 subsidence points have appeared in this area with a total length of more than 1km.
According to Mr. Chi, the degradation has directly affected the travel and daily life of local people, especially in the afternoons when many people gather to walk and exercise along the riverside embankment.

Besides the subsidence situation, about 800m of electrical wires of the lighting system on the embankment line were also cut secretly by subjects, causing many sections to become pitch-black at night. Prolonged power outages affect not only security and order but also pose a risk of accidents for people when traveling through the area.
According to the leader of Tan Ngai Ward People's Committee, the locality has coordinated with functional forces to strengthen patrols and inspections to limit continued theft. At the same time, the government also recorded people's feedback related to subsidence in the area.
Mr. Van Cong Chi said that the locality is preparing dossiers and statistics on the extent of damage to propose handling plans as soon as possible. The repair of subsidence points and the restoration of the lighting system are considered necessary to ensure safety for people when traveling and living.
