On the morning of December 19, Vingroup Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro project, an urban railway line expected to create a breakthrough in connecting urban space from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to the Can Gio coastal area.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro Line is more than 54 km long, built with a 1,435 mm standard double track, operated by a modern electrification system.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro uses the Velaro Novo train, the newest and most modern high-speed train line of Siemens Mobility (Germany). The ship has a maximum designed speed of 350 km/h, aiming to reshape high-speed transportation standards.
The starting point of the route is in Ben Thanh area (Ben Thanh ward), the end point is at the 39-hectare land plot bordering Can Gio coastal urban tourism area (Can Gio commune).
The project passes through wards and communes including: Ben Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong and Can Gio.

In phase 1, the project will build two main stations, Ben Thanh and Can Gio. The depot and OCC operation center are both expected to be located in the Can Gio area.
The metro line is expected to operate 6 regular trains and 1 reserve train, with a total of 56 cars. Daily operation time is from 6am to 11pm, with a frequency of 20 minutes per trip; every hour there are 3 pairs of trains running in two directions. The total travel time is only about 20.3 minutes.
Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro has a total preliminary investment of about VND 102,430 billion, excluding site clearance costs of about VND 12,784 billion allocated by the state budget.
Mr. Le Khac Hiep - Vice Chairman of Vingroup Corporation said that when put into commercial operation from the fourth quarter of 2028, the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line will open up new development space for Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Mr. Hiep, Vingroup is committed to mobilizing full capacity in technology, human resources and governance; strictly complying with safety, quality and environmental standards; organizing construction professionally, transparently and responsibly, to ensure the project is implemented on schedule and achieves the highest quality.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong said that this is a large-scale project, applying modern technology, connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with Can Gio, in line with the urban development orientation associated with services and marine economy.

To ensure the project is put into operation by the end of 2028 according to the investor's commitment, Mr. Bui Xuan Cuong suggested that the city's departments and branches mobilize maximum resources, focus on completing investment procedures, and shortening the processing time of related documents to accompany investors in project implementation.
The city's leaders also requested the 9 wards and communes where the metro line passes through to identify compensation and resettlement support as a key task; mobilize the entire political system to participate in propaganda, mobilize people to agree, and promptly hand over the site for construction.
