This information was announced by a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction on November 15.
Recently, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang - Head of the Steering Committee for the Development of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Network, requested relevant departments and branches to deploy many tasks in parallel to ensure the progress of the work, avoiding waiting or congestion due to lack of coordination.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro project is proposed for investment by VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company.
The metro line is nearly 53 km long, passing through 8 communes and wards including: Ben Thanh, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong and Can Gio (formerly in districts 1, 4, 7, Nha Be district and Can Gio district).
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro is built according to double track standards, 1,435 mm track gauge, designed speed up to 350 km/h.
Phase 1 of the project includes two main stations, Ben Thanh and Can Gio. In phase 2, when demand increases, the line can add four more stations: Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be and Binh Khanh. The depot and control center (OCC) will be located in Can Gio commune.
The total estimated investment of the project is more than VND 86,650 billion, of which the construction cost is about VND 37,000 billion, the equipment cost is more than VND 24,740 billion and the project management cost is more than VND 7,400 billion.

Right after the groundbreaking ceremony at the end of this year, the project will enter the construction and equipment installation stage, expected to last until the third quarter of 2027.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro Line can be put into trial operation from the fourth quarter of 2027 and put into commercial operation from the first quarter of 2028.
The metro line uses an 8-carry train, with a capacity of about 600 passengers. The train will run from 6am to 11pm every day, with a frequency of 20 minutes/trip.
On average, there are 3 pairs of two-way trains per hour, meeting about 43,680 passengers/day, equivalent to more than 15.9 million passengers per year.
About 50 km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Can Gio is over 71,300 hectares wide, of which 70% is mangrove forests and canals. Currently, connecting from here to the center is mainly via Binh Khanh ferry.
With large scale and modern technology, the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro is expected to become a vital traffic route, shortening travel time, opening up new development space for the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City, especially Can Gio.
