According to the actual temperature measured at 6:00 a.m. on January 13, out of 27 meteorological stations monitored in the North, 20 localities in the North had temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. 7 other provinces and cities had temperatures ranging from 10-10.7 degrees Celsius.
Notably, Lang Son and Cao Bang were the two localities that recorded the lowest temperatures this morning, at 2.5 degrees Celsius and 3.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In Bac Kan, Son La and Tam Duong (Lai Chau), the temperature fluctuated from 4.8 to 5.8 degrees Celsius. In Ha Dong (Hanoi), the measured temperature was 7.3 degrees Celsius.
According to the meteorological agency, the temperature in these areas will not change much between 7-8am on the same day.
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on January 13, the northern provinces, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will continue to experience severe cold, with many places likely to experience severe cold.
The meteorological agency also warned that the prolonged cold spell will cause severe cold in the North, with the risk of frost and frost, seriously affecting livestock, crops and people's health, especially in the northern mountainous areas. Meanwhile, the southern region is likely to experience heavy rain, strong thunderstorms accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, hail and gusts of wind, threatening production and daily life.
Previously, on the night of January 11, many high mountainous areas in the North such as Phia Oac (Cao Bang), Ta Xua (Bac Yen, Son La), Lao Than peak (Y Ty, Lao Cai), La Pan Tan pass (Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai) recorded frost.
This is the first time in the winter of 2024-2025 that frost has appeared on Lao Than peak, while Fansipan has recorded this phenomenon twice.
In Ta Xua (Son La), low temperatures have caused ice to cover the mountain tops.
According to information from Phia Oac Broadcasting Station (Cao Bang), the temperature at the top of the mountain dropped to 0°C, with a thin layer of ice on the surface.
The lowest temperature forecast during this cold air mass in the Northern mountainous region is 6-9 degrees Celsius, and in high mountainous areas below 3 degrees Celsius.
The North enters the winter season when the intensity and frequency of cold air increases from mid-January 2025.
