Day care model helps the elderly be happy and healthy

Hanoi - With the daytime nursing model, the elderly have more space for socializing while still being able to return home to their children and grandchildren after each day of activities.

Elderly people are interested in daytime nursing models

In modern life, work pressure makes it difficult for many families to spend time taking care of the elderly.

In order to support families and meet the needs of both physical and mental care for the elderly, Tay Ho ward (Hanoi) implemented a model and opened a daytime elderly care facility at No. 14 Quang An street.

After nearly a month of operation, the model has initially been effective, receiving positive feedback from the elderly and families.

Ms. Duong Thi Minh (Hanoi) is one of the elderly people who experienced this model. She said that what she likes most is the space and activities organized during the day.

“Here we are taken care of very thoughtfully, eat enough, suitable for our age, feeling younger. In the morning we go to the nursing home, in the afternoon we can go home to our children and grandchildren, so we are very happy. Children are also more reassured,” Ms. Minh shared.

Ms. Minh was also surprised to learn that this is a model implemented by the ward. According to her, the space at the facility feels more like a living and resting place for the elderly than a traditional care facility.

Experiencing the model together, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (Hanoi) highly appreciated the facilities and the way staff care for the elderly.

The facility is spacious, beautiful and clean. Everyone here serves very enthusiastically, taking care of the elderly thoughtfully and affectionately like their children and grandchildren in the family," Ms. Lien said.

According to Ms. Lien, the noteworthy point of the model is that the elderly can still return home to their families after a day of activities.

I think this model is very worth replicating because it does not create a feeling of distance between the elderly and grandchildren. During the day, coming here to exercise, learn to draw, sing, socialize, both train the body and be happy and comfortable," Ms. Lien said.

Taking care of the elderly both in terms of health and spirit

Unlike the familiar image of nursing homes - where the elderly move to live for a long time - the model in Tay Ho ward is organized in the form of day care, not aimed at separating the elderly from their families.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy (in charge of the Daycare Center for the Elderly in Tay Ho ward) said that the facility's activities focus on 5 main groups including: health monitoring; medical examination, treatment and health consultation; scientific nutrition; exercise, rehabilitation; exchange, connection to live happily and healthily.

Accordingly, the elderly when coming to the facility are managed, updated health records; monitor blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and necessary indicators. Besides, there are advice on drug use, nutrition, disease prevention and health issues suitable for each person.

“The activities are built according to a daily and weekly schedule, with the desire to create the best environment for the elderly to take care of their health, socialize and maintain a healthy and happy spirit,” Ms. Tran Thi Thuy said.

According to Ms. Thuy, the goal of the model is to maintain long-term care for the elderly, so that the elderly are respected, loved, cared for and have a suitable living environment.

The daytime care model, therefore, not only reduces the burden of care for the family but also creates more living space for the elderly, in which the family still plays a central role. After hours of care, exercise and exchange at the facility, the elderly return home, continuing life with their children and grandchildren.
