Bac Lieu - A 33m long section of the river collapsed in the center of Bac Lieu city.

The 33m long landslide occurred on the night of March 12 on the west bank of the downstream of Nha Mat culvert, on the 30/4 canal, in Com Xoai hamlet, Nha Mat ward, Bac Lieu city. The cause was determined to be erosion of strong currents from the East Sea and the impact of tides that caused landslides.

Local authorities and people are urgently overcoming the consequences and protecting the traffic route.

According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper at the scene on March 14, after the landslide occurred, the authorities put up ropes and installed warning signs at both ends of the road.

The 33m long landslide area did not have a protective hardened embankment system, the land along the canal was weak, and many large cracks appeared.

The landslide location has an open frog's jaw, people have temporarily packed the canopy with local wood, but could not prevent the landslide, the risk of cutting off the traffic section is very high.

Having lived in this area for 45 years, Ms. Thach Thi Pho said that landslides occurred at night, and in the morning, she saw part of the land submerged in the river. Ms. Pho recounted: "I have never seen such a landslide before. Previously, the 30/4 canal was only about 5 - 6m wide, but now due to landslides, it is more than ten meters wide. Seeing the landslide, I was scared, because I had eaten deep into the hallway of my house."

Mr. Thach Van Be, who lives right in the landslide area, shared: "Now that we want to move, we don't know where to go because our family no longer has land. If you go wherever you want, you can't do it. Before, it gradually retreated to the back, now it is facing a cemetery that cannot be moved. I hope the local government will soon reinforce the landslide section so that people can travel safely".
