On the afternoon of December 26, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department said that in 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City tax sector will focus on reviewing and inspecting organizations and individuals with revenue from e-commerce platforms to calculate taxes.
In particular, the tax industry will conduct tax audits on celebrities, digital influencers or those with income from e-commerce.
In the first phase, the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department will conduct a pilot tax inspection of 35 artists and celebrities on social networking platforms, which is a key task of the tax sector in 2025.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department, in 2024, it reviewed the list of celebrities, content creators on social media platforms and individuals selling via livestream to check compliance with tax laws.
As a result of the inspection, the tax sector has handled nearly 15,000 organizations and individuals, with the total amount of tax arrears and fines being more than VND 286 billion, an increase of 31% compared to the amount of tax arrears and fines in 2023.
Through propaganda work, many business households and individuals operating e-commerce have complied with tax laws. Typically, a business household has self-declared and paid 11.5 billion VND in taxes, or a beauty queen has self-declared and paid 4.7 billion VND in taxes.
Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department is managing nearly 60,000 taxpayers operating in e-commerce, including 13,000 enterprises and 45,300 business households.
Tax collection for many individuals and businesses selling online is still facing many difficulties, because many cases do not register for tax, do not work with tax authorities as required, or issue invoices at the wrong time...
In 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department will focus on propaganda and support solutions, developing an e-commerce platform plan to implement tax deduction and payment on behalf of individual business households.
For individuals and businesses that do not comply with taxes, the tax industry will publicize their identities to deter and raise awareness for other cases.
