The workshop “Tax and a healthy financial system for sustainable development” chaired by the Ministry of Finance, in coordination with the General Department of Taxation and Lao Dong Newspaper, organized on December 18, brought many new and multi-dimensional perspectives on the role of the tax sector as well as tax work in the context of digital technology.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the philosophy of "nurturing sustainable revenue sources" instead of "tightening revenue".
Without imposing additional burdens on people and businesses, the tax sector pursues the strategy of "collecting correctly and fully" along with expanding the tax base.
In particular, new areas such as digital economy, e-commerce and multinational business have been effectively exploited.
Thanks to this philosophy and humane approach, the tax industry has achieved encouraging results.
Total state budget revenue for the 2021-2024 period is estimated at VND7.2 trillion, exceeding the target of VND940 trillion. The tax sector alone contributed more than VND6.1 trillion, exceeding the estimate by 18.6%.
Notably, over the past four years, the tax sector has exempted, reduced and extended taxes with a total amount of more than VND800,000 billion.
This is an unprecedented policy, helping to reduce financial pressure on businesses and people, while creating a strong driving force to promote business development, especially in the context of the global economy facing many difficulties and fluctuations.
In addition, the Vietnamese tax industry has also recorded remarkable progress in applying modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data analysis and automation of management processes.
These applications not only increase tax management efficiency but also actively support fraud prevention, helping to increase budget revenue by more than VND 41,000 billion in the 2021-2024 period.
According to Mr. Noguchi Daisuke - Chief Project Advisor of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Vietnam's electronic tax system has met international standards and is not inferior to developed countries.
Mr. Noguchi Daisuke emphasized that professional and transparent tax management will increase confidence from foreign investors, thereby promoting sustainable economic growth.
The achievements of the tax sector not only reflect a strong transformation but also demonstrate a strategic vision, focusing on sustainable development, "taking taxpayers as the center of service" as Mr. Pham Quang Toan - Director of the Department of Information Technology, General Department of Taxation, Ministry of Finance said at the Workshop.
In the future, with the support of modern technology and increasingly humane policies, it is hoped that the tax sector will continue to perform well in two tasks: both collecting the state budget and acting as an important driving force to promote the comprehensive development of the Vietnamese economy, deeply integrating with the world and bringing practical benefits to all classes in society!
