It was noted that in the fields in My Tu district, as soon as the sun was shining, people rushed to the fields to harvest rice .
Mr. Le Van Banh in My Tu commune (My Tu district, Soc Trang province) said that in the summer-autumn crop of 2024, his family cultivated 7,000 square meters. Due to the impact of heavy rain, his rice fields were harvested 3 days late. However, both productivity and selling price were as expected.
"This crop's yield is about 7 tons/ha, an increase of 1 ton over the same period. Currently selling for 7,200 VND/kg, minus profit costs of about 25 million VND/ha," Mr. Banh said.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of My Tu district, this year's Summer-Autumn crop, the locality sowed 23,085 hectares, and harvested over 13,580 hectares. Thanks to compliance with the sowing schedule and choosing rice varieties adapted to the soil, the average yield reached 5.4 tons/ha, an increase of 5 - 10% over the same period. Rice consumption is also favorable, harvested rice is sold by farmers right in the fields at a price of over 7,200 VND/kg.
However, due to the influence of tropical depression and thunderstorms, many rice areas were flooded and collapsed. Currently, the authorities are coordinating to operate sewers to promptly drain water from some flooded areas.
