On the afternoon of October 27, widespread thunderstorms occurred in many districts, towns and cities in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, affecting people's lives and activities.
From around 3 p.m., heavy thunderstorms occurred in Ba Ria City, causing many large trees to fall on National Highway 51, near Cau Co May Bridge, in the direction from Vung Tau City to Ba Ria City.
According to records, 5 tamarind trees over 15m high (planted in 2006, growing normally) have fallen. The initial cause was due to the impact of strong storms in a fairly open area.
Among them, 2 fallen trees blocked the road, making it impossible for vehicles to continue moving, causing a traffic jam of about 2km on this stretch of road. Fortunately, there were no human casualties.
"I was driving when I saw a traffic jam ahead. I don't know what happened, but I couldn't turn back to Vung Tau. It was raining very hard at the time," said Mr. Son, a resident passing through the area.
Upon receiving the information, the authorities mobilized many vehicles to cut and clear the fallen trees on the road. The Provincial Traffic Police Department also organized traffic regulation, guiding vehicles to turn around and move in the appropriate direction.
By around 4:30 p.m., traffic through the area had partially recovered, and authorities were speeding up the repair process to fully restore traffic.
In addition, some places in Phu My town also experienced widespread power outages due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. As of 4:50 p.m., the power was still not restored.
"At around 3:10 p.m., during the rain, I heard a very loud thunder almost right next to me, then the power went out in my area, probably due to a lightning strike," said Mr. Phong, a resident of Song Xoai commune, Phu My town.
