The water level of large hydropower reservoirs in the North is generally at a safe level, most reservoirs do not have to open discharge gates.

According to updates from Vietnam Electricity Group, as of 10:30 am on January 1, 2026, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Reservoir (Northeast), the upstream water level reached 119.96m, close to the normal water level of 120m. Water flow to the reservoir is at 111 m3/s, the reservoir does not discharge through spillways or through the plant.

In the Northwest region, the water level of Lai Chau Lake was measured at 294.99m, almost equal to the normal water level (295m), the flow to the lake reached 205 m3/s, but no water discharge has occurred.

Some lakes in the Da River basin continue to maintain water levels lower than normal rising water levels.

Specifically, Ban Chat reservoir has an upstream water level of 474.92m, lower than the normal water level (475m). The reservoir is discharging 10 m3/s through the plant, without opening deep discharge gates or face discharge.

Huoi Quang Lake recorded a water level of 368.42m, lower than the normal water level (370m), water flow to the lake reached 84 m3/s, no discharge was carried out.

Meanwhile, Son La reservoir has an upstream water level of 214.92m, close to reaching the normal water level (215m), water flow to the reservoir is at 533 m3/s, but has not yet been discharged.

Notably, Hoa Binh reservoir recorded a water level of 116.56m, lower than the normal water level (117m). Water flow to the reservoir reached 40 m3/s, total discharge volume 299 m3/s, all through the hydropower plant, no spillway opening.

At Thac Ba Lake, the upstream water level is at 57.82m, close to the normal water level (58m), the flow to the lake is 114 m3/s, and no water discharge has occurred.

According to the latest weather forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, January 1, 2026, the Northern region will have rain, scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places. The mountainous area in the Northeast region, from January 1, 2026, will turn cold.

The midlands, the Northern Delta and the North Central region will turn cold from the evening and night of January 1, 2026.

Southern region has light rain in some places at night, sunny during the day.
