In particular, on January 1, 2026, passengers are exempted from tolls when using Metro Line No. 1. To enjoy this policy, passengers can choose one of the following three forms:
Method 1: Use a Citizen Identification Card or Citizen Identification Card with a chip, scan directly at the ticket gate.
Method 2: Use the QR code on the HCMC Metro HURC application. Passengers download the application, select the "QR Earn Yourself" function to create tickets and scan at the ticket gate.
Method 3: Receive free paper tickets with QR codes at automatic ticket kiosks and scan at the ticket gate to board the train.
HURC 1 notes that during the implementation of the free program, passengers only use the above forms. In case they still buy tickets in the usual form, the system will charge and not refund the paid amount.
The "QR Vuon minh" function will officially appear on the HCMC Metro HURC application from January 1, 2026 and is only effective during the day.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), after more than 1 year of official operation (from December 22, 2024), Metro Line No. 1 has served more than 19 million passengers.
On average, this metro line welcomes about 1.5 million passengers per month, equivalent to 52,000 passengers/day.
On holidays and Tet, the number of passengers at times peaked at more than 110,000 trips/day, showing the increasingly clear role of the metro in Ho Chi Minh City's public transport system.
