Hydropower reservoirs in the North are flexibly operated according to weather developments, ensuring safety for downstream areas.

The water level of large hydroelectric reservoirs in the Northern region continues to remain stable, many reservoirs are near normal rising water levels, suitable for power generation operation and ensuring reservoir safety.

According to an update from Vietnam Electricity Group, as of 9:00 a.m. on December 26, 2025, Hoa Binh Lake recorded upstream water levels at elevation of 116.64m; water flow to the lake reached 729m3/s; total discharge through the plant was 722m3/s.

At Tuyen Quang Lake, by 9:00 a.m. on December 26, the upstream water level reached 119.91 m; the water flow to the lake reached 81 m3/s; the total discharge was 184.04 m3/s.

Implementing the inter-reservoir operation process on the Red River basin, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant has closed 1 bottom spillway gate of Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant, currently only maintaining power generation through generators.

As of 9:00 a.m. on December 26, Son La Lake recorded upstream water levels at 214.59 m; water flow to the lake was 645 m3/s; total discharge through the plant was 701 m3/s. Currently, the unit has closed all bottom spillways, only maintaining power generation through generators to regulate the flow downstream.

A similar situation occurred in Lai Chau Lake, where the upstream water level reached 294.77m; the water flow to the lake reached 405m3/s; the total discharge was 608m3/s. Currently, Lai Chau Hydropower Plant has also closed all spillways and surface spillways, only operating power generation through generators.

At Thac Ba Lake, as of 9:00 a.m. on December 26, the upstream water level reached 57.81 m; the water flow to the lake reached 120 m3/s; the total discharge was 271.36 m3/s, not discharged through the spillway.

According to the latest weather forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, December 26, the Northern and North Central regions will be cold, especially in the mountainous areas of the North, there will be severe cold in some places.

The area from Quang Tri to Da Nang city, the east of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa will have rain, moderate rain, locally heavy rain to very heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The Southern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms.
