Water levels of hydroelectric reservoirs in the North on December 18

MINH NGUYỄN |

Water levels in many large hydroelectric reservoirs in the North continue to remain stable at a level close to the normal rising water level.

As of 11:30 a.m. on December 18, 2025, according to an update from Vietnam Electricity Group, Tuyen Quang Hydropower Reservoir (Border Delta) has an upstream water level of 119.58 m, 0.42 m lower than the normal water level (120 m). The water flow to the lake is 117 m3/s. At this time, the lake does not release water, the parameters of overflow discharge and power generation are all zero.

In the Northwest region, Lai Chau hydroelectric reservoir recorded upstream water levels of 294.92 m, only 0.08 m lower than the normal water level (295 m). The water flow to the lake reached 722 m3/s, however, the lake has not yet discharged, showing that the flood prevention capacity is still guaranteed.

The two lafts on the Nam Mu River, Ban Chat and Huoi Quang, continue to maintain stable water levels. Specifically, Ban Chat Lake has a water level of 474.7 m, 0.3 m lower than the normal water level (475 m), the water flow reaches 20 m3/s. Huoi Quang Lake recorded a water level of 369.62 m, 0.38 m lower than the normal water level (370 m), the flow to the lake is 17 m3/s. Both lakes do not release water.

At Son La hydroelectric reservoir, the upstream water level reached 214.62 m, 0.38 m lower than the normal rising water level (215 m). The water flow to the lake is at 554 m3/s. The total discharge reached 584 m3/s, all of which was discharged through power generation, without overflow.

Meanwhile, Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir recorded upstream water levels of 115.9 m, 1.1 m lower than the normal water level (117 m). The water flow to the lake reached 1,029 m3/s, the total discharge was 457 m3/s, all through power generation, no overflow.

At Thac Ba hydroelectric reservoir, the upstream water level reached 57.78 m, 0.22 m lower than the normal rising water level (58 m). The water flow to the reservoir is 138 m3/s, the total discharge is 103.92 m3/s, not discharged through the spillway.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today, December 18, the Northern region will have rain in some places, with scattered fog and light fog in the early morning. Cold at night and morning.

Hue city, Da Nang city and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will have rain, showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain.
