Specifically, the water level of the Tich River fluctuates from 8.333-8.64m, 0.24-0.33m higher than alarm level 3. The Bui River is at 7.45m, exceeding alarm level 3 by 0.45m.
Day River reached 6.62m, exceeding alarm level 2 by 0.12m; My Ha River at 5.72m, exceeding alarm level 1 by 0.22m. The water level of the Nhue River at Ha Dong bridge recorded 5.1m.
After widespread rain decreased from the night of September 17, urban drainage work in Hanoi has had positive changes.
By the morning of September 18, most of the heavily flooded points before, such as underpass No. 5, No. 6, underpass km9+656 Thang Long Avenue, Nam An Khanh welcome gate, Trieu Khuc, Cau Buou, Phung Hung, Yen Xa... had drained, and traffic was basically smooth.
According to drainage maintenance units, currently the whole area only has one localized flooding point in the Nguyen Trac area, at the foot of HH2 bridge. The flooding point has an area of about 140m x 8m, a depth of 0.2m, affecting 2 lanes.
The cause was determined to be the rising water level of the Bui River, limiting the ability of self-flowing drainage.
Faced with the high water level of the river, functional forces continue to maintain the on-duty plan, operate the drainage system to proactively lower the water level.
More than 2,500 workers and over 200 vehicles and specialized equipment are mobilized to be on duty 24/24h in key areas.
Key pumping stations are operating at high capacity. At Yen So pumping station, 18/20 units are operating; Co Nhue pumping station operates 4/4 pumps; Dong Bong 1 pumping station operates 3/3 pumps.
Irrigation units also coordinated to operate Dao Nguyen pumping station with 25/25 pumps, Cau Sa 11/11 pumps, Khe Tang 9/10 pumps and Yen Nghia 4/10 pumps.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung - Director of Hanoi Technical Infrastructure Management Center - said that despite facing great pressure from accumulated rainfall and high river water levels, emergency flood prevention works and infrastructure systems invested in the past time have been effective.
According to Mr. Hung, the unit will continue to coordinate with irrigation sectors to maintain water level reduction at receiving sources, and at the same time proactively create reserve capacity, ready to respond if the weather continues to be unfavorable.
Maintaining the operation of pumping stations and arranging 24/24h on-duty forces to limit the risk of re-flooding in urban areas, especially in the context that the water level of some rivers is still exceeding alarm levels.
