Previously, in Can Tho City, it was not difficult to see people running red lights, driving in the wrong lane, or going the wrong way... However, in the past few days, road users have been more aware of obeying traffic laws.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, at the roads and intersections in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, traffic participants proactively stopped at red lights, basically moved in the correct lane, and wore helmets...
Previously, when there were about 5-6 seconds left on the red light, many motorcyclists would start moving their vehicles across the line, but now, people only start moving when the light turns from red to green.
According to Mr. Huynh Tan (O Mon District, Can Tho City), with the new regulation, drivers who drive in the wrong direction, on the sidewalk, or run red lights will be fined from 4 to 6 million VND, a fine that will hurt him and many other people if they violate the law.
Mr. Huynh Tan shared that his current income is about 10 million VND/month. If he is fined, he will lose half a month's salary. "Knowing that the new fine is very heavy, I am also worried. But thinking again, obeying traffic laws is to protect myself and others. If everyone is aware, traffic culture will become better and better," said Mr. Huynh Tan.
Having witnessed an accident caused by running a red light, Ms. Le Trinh (28 years old, Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city) said that the new fine is very necessary to deter and replace those who lack awareness in traffic. From there, traffic culture will be put into order. "In the past, the fines for alcohol concentration were quite high, I saw that the cases of drinking alcohol and driving have decreased a lot. I hope that this new Decree will change the awareness of many people", Ms. Le Trinh shared more.
On January 3, Can Tho City Police said that on the first day of implementing Decree No. 168, the Traffic Police force organized 45 patrols and issued administrative fines for 151 cases.
Of these, 13 cases were alcohol violations, 31 speeding violations, 2 cases of overloading, and 105 other violations. Compared to previous days, the number of violators on the first day of implementing Decree 168/2024/ND-CP decreased.
Decree 168/2024/ND-CP detailing administrative sanctions in the field of road traffic, effective from January 1, 2025.
According to the decree, drivers of cars, four-wheeled motor vehicles or similar vehicles that do not comply with traffic light signals will be fined from 18 to 20 million VND (previously the fine was from 4 to 6 million VND).
