In the late afternoon of April 30, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Thu - Secretary of the Party Committee of Binh Phu commune (Gia Lai) - confirmed that a drowning incident had just occurred in the area, killing a male student (residing in An Nhon Dong ward).
According to initial information, during the April 30 - May 1 holiday, a group of 6 students (in An Nhon area) invited each other to Ham Ho Tourist Area (Binh Phu commune) to play and swim in the stream.
At about 3 pm on the same day, while swimming in the stream, 2 students unfortunately slipped into a deep water area. Rescue forces promptly rescued 1 student ashore safely.
The remaining student (identity is being verified) drowned and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment but did not survive.
Functional agencies are carrying out procedures to hand over the victim's body to the family for funeral arrangements.
