On September 20, the Naval Region 2 Command coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Soc Trang province to organize the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea in 2024" in Tran De town, Tran De district.
At the program, representatives of Brigade 167, Command of Naval Region 2, disseminated information about the situation of seas and islands; the operation of Vietnamese fishing vessels; and some guidelines on safe and sustainable fishing in accordance with the law.
In addition, 50 life jackets were supported for fishermen, including 25 fishermen in especially difficult circumstances who received additional gifts.
According to Mr. Lu Tan Hoa - Deputy Head of the Fisheries Branch of Soc Trang province, the Navy program to sponsor fishermen's children and the Vietnam Navy program to support fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea are meaningful activities, contributing to improving the quality and effectiveness of propaganda, mobilization, support and assistance activities for fishermen to exploit aquatic products safely and legally.
In 2023, the Naval Region 2 Command sponsored 5 students who are children of fishermen in especially difficult circumstances, distributed 100 gifts and 200 national flags.
The whole Soc Trang province currently has 806 registered boats with a capacity of 208,163 CV. The annual marine exploitation output is about 60,000 tons. There are about 5,630 workers directly exploiting aquatic products at sea.
Along with fishermen across the country, Soc Trang fishermen are actively going offshore and working with local authorities to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, contributing to removing the European Commission's yellow card on Vietnamese seafood.
