The 12th Southern Traditional Bread Festival in 2025 in Can Tho City is taking place enthusiastically from April 4-8 at Binh Thuy District Square, attracting a large number of people and tourists. This year's largest culinary event in the Western region has made a strong impression with the appearance of "giant" cakes, demonstrating the creativity and quintessence of local cuisine.

The special highlight of this year's festival is the "largest banh chung of the Mekong Delta", Mr. Tran Minh Cuong, Permanent Vice Chairman of Can Tho Chef Association, and Head of the Hau Farm Ecological Zone, said that with the desire to promote the Southern cuisine and commemorate the Hung Kings, the team has worked hard to create a unique banh chung, with the typical flavor of the Western banh chung.
To create this giant banh chung, quality ingredients from local agricultural products have been carefully selected, including 600kg of sticky rice, 235kg of green beans, 215kg of pork belly. In particular, 1,000 banana leaf boats and 1,800 delicious dong leaves were transported from the North to wrap the quintessence of the cake. The "huge" banh chung is 1.9x1.9m in size, about 0.8m high and weighs up to about 1.6 tons.
Ms. Doan Thi Xuan, a resident of Binh Thuy district, could not help but be surprised and delighted when witnessing and enjoying this special piece of banh chung.

Ms. Xuan shared: "The flavor of banh chung is very delicious and rich. The sticky rice, green beans, and meat are mixed together very flexibly, eating them is no different from Chung cakes made in the North".
Not only the "giant" banh chung, this year's festival also witnessed an impressive performance by 15 artisans in creating a banh xeo with 100 Nha Trang lobsters.

This "super-huge" fleet of cars has a circumference of up to 9m. The filling is made with soursop meat, carrots, green beans, delicious fresh mustard greens and especially 100 fresh lobsters from Nha Trang. This is considered the largest banh xeo ever, surpassing the record of a giant banh xeo held at the 2024 festival.
The 12th Southern Traditional Bread Festival in 2025 is not only a place to enjoy delicious traditional cakes but also an opportunity for people and tourists to explore the creativity, uniqueness and quintessence of Southern cuisine. The appearance of a "huge" banh chung and a "super lobster" banh xeo promises to bring unforgettable culinary experiences to visitors.
