Road expansion project worth nearly 300 billion VND in HCMC is in disarray

Ho Chi Minh City - The Hoang Hoa Tham Street expansion project with a total investment of nearly 300 billion VND is still in disarray, and the site has not been handed over yet.

The project to expand Hoang Hoa Tham Street, from the gate of the military barracks (adjacent to the airport) to Cong Hoa Street, is nearly 800 m long, the road surface is 8-10 m wide and will be expanded to 22 m.

The project was approved in October 2016 with a total investment of VND255 billion. However, after many years of not being implemented, in July 2022, the project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council to adjust the total investment to nearly VND291 billion (mainly due to the cost of site clearance).

The project to upgrade and expand Hoang Hoa Tham Street, with 150 cases within the clearance area, has achieved positive progress after more than a year of implementing compensation and site clearance work.

According to the representative of the Compensation and Site Clearance Board of Tan Binh District, up to now, the unit has completed the land acquisition of 149/150 households in the Hoang Hoa Tham Street expansion project (from the gate of the military barracks to the Hoang Hoa Tham overpass). The unit is continuing to mobilize the last household, if the household does not hand over the land, the land acquisition will be carried out on November 26. The delay in handing over the land affects the progress of the Hoang Hoa Tham Street expansion project, which is expected to be completed in 2025.

At the same time, according to Lao Dong reporters, a section of Hoang Hoa Tham Street leading to Cong Hoa Street is currently littered with bunkers, construction materials and machinery. This narrows the road, making it difficult for people to travel through.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Cuong (residing in Tan Binh district) said: “During rush hour, a section of Hoang Hoa Tham Street towards Cong Hoa is always congested, the reason being that materials and machinery are left lying around, occupying the entire road. I hope the project will be completed soon so that people can travel more easily.”

The Hoang Hoa Tham Street Upgrade Project is not only an important step in developing transport infrastructure, but also has great significance in improving the quality of life for residents in the area. The rapid completion of the project will contribute significantly to the urban beautification process and improve traffic in the area.
