On the afternoon of September 17, at Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital (Quang Tri province), 6 victims of a serious traffic accident at Tan Long market (Lao Bao commune, Quang Tri) are in stable health but are still in shock.
Mr. Le Van Phuoc (54 years old, living in Lao Bao commune) said that he and his wife were selling household goods at the market when the truck suddenly rushed forward at high speed. Mr. Phuoc was left unable to react. After that, his face was covered in blood but luckily he only suffered an injury to the head. Mr. Phuoc's wife only suffered minor injuries to her shoulder, but the three people living near his sales location were not so lucky.
A moment later, Mr. Phuoc was taken to the commune health station, then taken by ambulance to Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital for treatment.
"I have stabilized my health, now thinking back I still feel afraid and heartbroken for those who do not survive" - Mr. Phuoc said.
That same morning, Ms. Doan Thi Thuong (40 years old, living in Lao Bao commune) went to Tan Long market to buy books for her children. While waiting for a red light, she saw a truck rushing into the market. A loud noise was heard, followed by a loud scream. Ms. Thuong observed and saw bananas scattered everywhere, many people lying motionless, the scene was chaotic at that time, causing her to panic.
After the accident, in addition to the 6 victims being treated at Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital, there were 3 seriously injured victims transferred to a higher-level hospital, Quang Tri General Hospital.
The leader of Quang Tri General Hospital confirmed that among the 3 victims of traffic accidents who were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, 2 patients were out of danger, 1 patient was seriously injured in the head and is being closely monitored.
On the same afternoon, Mr. Phan Phong Phu - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province - went directly to the scene, requesting relevant units to focus on treating the injured and supporting the families of the deceased.
The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province also visited and encouraged the victims at the hospital. The Lao Bao commune government supported each family with 5 million VND for one deceased person, 3 million VND for the seriously injured person, and 2 million VND for the slightly injured person.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 7:50 a.m. on September 17, a truck with license plate 37C-587.63 driven by Mr. Tran Minh Hoang (born in 1973, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) suddenly crashed into the market area, killing 3 people on the spot and injuring 9 others. The driver and his accompanying person were determined to be negative for drugs and alcohol concentration. The location of the traffic accident was at the intersection between National Highway 9 and Provincial Road - this place was crowded with motorbikes carrying bananas, causing traffic insecurity.
