At the end of the trading session on September 17, the general market was under pressure to adjust, but Vingroup's VIC shares became a bright spot when they increased sharply and set a new peak, thereby increasing the assets of Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup Corporation - by hundreds of millions of USD.
VN-Index decreased by 9.93 points, equivalent to 0.59% to 1,670.97 points. The whole exchange recorded 201 stocks down, 54 stocks up and 119 stocks up. Liquidity decreased by nearly 20% compared to the previous session, the matched volume reached more than 1 billion units, the trading value was about 32,100 billion VND.
Investors' cautious psychology is clearly shown when the market awaits the new interest rate decision from the US Federal Reserve (FED) in the early morning of September 18.
In the opposite direction of the market, VIC increased by 6% and closed at VND 143,100/share, surpassing the historical peak at the end of August. Vingroup's capitalization has therefore increased to more than VND551,000 billion, becoming the enterprise with the largest capitalization on the Vietnamese stock exchange. Meanwhile, Vietcombank's capitalization decreased to VND541,447 billion.
Thanks to the breakthrough of VIC shares, Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong's net assets increased by 424 million USD in just one day, to 14.2 billion USD. According to the world billionaire rankings, he is currently ranked 188th globally.
Along with the increase of VIC shares, FPT also played a positive role in today's index with an increase of 1.93% to VND 105,500/unit. FPT's stock price movements are positive in the context of the company announcing to become a strategic partner to implement a 5-year contract worth 256 million USD with Asia's leading energy group. This contract also has the largest value in FPT's 37-year history.
On the contrary, despite positive information from the official announcement of the submission of the listing of the agricultural sector, HPG shares (Hoa Phat) decreased by 2.5% today, the most negative impact on the VN-Index.
