After half a year of focusing on overcoming the consequences, the lives of people in the flooded border commune of Muong Pon, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province have gradually stabilized. The Tet atmosphere here brings warm sunshine, dispelling painful memories.
Being present in Muong Pon commune in the days before Tet, the reporter recorded that the lives of the people here are starting to revive. Roads and bridges that were washed away by the flood have now been repaired, making travel easier. Damaged houses of the people have been repaired and rebuilt by the local government and armed forces in coordination.
Households whose houses were completely buried and swept away have now been supported to rebuild at resettlement sites and moved to new homes to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2025.
As one of the households in Muong Pon commune that received support to build a new house after the natural disaster, Ms. Luong Thi Hieng in Linh village is still emotional. Her family's old house was completely swept away by the historic flood at the end of July 2024.
Mrs. Hieng’s new house has a construction area of 117m², is designed in a modern style, ensuring housing standards. The total cost of building the house is 130 million VND, of which 60 million VND is the family’s counterpart capital.
This year, Tet is very special for the family. In the warm new house, Mrs. Hieng is busy wrapping green Chung cakes. “Without the support of the authorities, my family would hardly have a warm Tet like this. The new house is not only a place to shelter from the rain and sun, but also the affection and care of the Party, the State, the police and the army for us, the people,” said Mrs. Hieng.
Toc Tin 2 is one of 5 resettlement villages invested in by the local government. Currently, 13/13 spacious and sturdy houses have been completed in time for people to celebrate Lunar New Year in their new homes.
The family of Ms. Lo Thi En in Tin Toc 2 village is one of the last households to complete their new house in the resettlement area. The house is more than 80 square meters wide, spacious and modern, bringing her and her family a new home.
With joy and excitement, Ms. En said: “After months of worry, my whole family has now officially moved into a new house. Celebrating Tet in this house is truly meaningful and happy.”
Along with housing construction, Dien Bien district is continuing to invest in essential infrastructure items such as electricity, domestic water, roads, etc. so that people can soon stabilize their lives after the storm and flood.
