On June 8, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Pham Van Vuong - Director of Hoa Binh Hydropower Company - said: "The current low water level of Hoa Binh Lake is included in the general exploitation plan of the power system in 2025 and is completely in accordance with the approved operating process.
In fact, the water level is currently at more than 85m - lower than the same period last year but is still normal, and the dead water level is more than 5m away so it does not affect power generation."
According to Mr. Vuong, the low lake water is also ready to cut floodwaters in the upcoming flood season (if any).
In addition, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Project is taking advantage of this time to demolish the surrounding dike and is expected to end on June 15.
Another reason is that recently, Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant has also generated high electricity (increased capacity) to ensure electricity supply, which also reduces the lake's water level.
According to the reporter's records, the water level of the Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir has been low in recent days, in many places the reservoir bed is bare, affecting the lives and production of thousands of households.
Mr. Bui Van Ky - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hien Luong commune (Da Bac district) - said that the local government has advised people to proactively adapt, not to anchor cages in shallow water areas, limit damage to aquatic products and production.
Hoa Binh Hydropower Reservoir is the largest artificial reservoir in Vietnam with a length of about 230km, reservoir area of 208 km2; The entire reservoir contains 9.45 billion cubic meters of water; The installed capacity is 1,920 MW, including 8 generators; The average annual power is 8.6 billion kWh.
