A delivery man in Ho Chi Minh City was fined VND5 million for not following traffic lights. He said he was in a hurry to deliver the goods and did not pay attention to the traffic lights.

On the afternoon of January 8, Mr. N.T.A. (born in 1991, delivery man, residing in District 3) was driving a motorbike on Huynh Thuc Khang Street, District 1. When he reached Nguyen Hue walking street, Mr. A. turned right when the traffic light was red and was stopped by the traffic police, fined 5 million VND for not obeying the traffic light.

Mr. A. said he was in a hurry to deliver the goods, so he did not pay attention to the traffic light. "I know I was wrong, but at that time I was only thinking about the urgent delivery, not paying attention to the traffic light. The fine of 5 million VND is very large because it is equivalent to a month's salary. Especially near Tet, when I had to spend a lot on necessary expenses, this amount of money really makes me feel regretful and worried," Mr. A shared.

On the same day, on Pham Ngu Lao Street, the task force also fined driver L.H.T. (born in 1984, from Binh Thuan) for stopping the vehicle in violation of regulations. This driver was stopping to load goods but was fined 700,000 VND by the traffic police for stopping the vehicle in an area with a no-parking sign.

Lieutenant Colonel Luu Minh Si, Captain of the Traffic Police and Order Team of District 1 Police, said that in the city center, especially the roads around Ben Thanh Market, Nguyen Hue Walking Street and areas with many tourists, vehicles often stop and park illegally. This causes traffic congestion and affects the movement of other vehicles.
