Prolonged heavy rain in recent days has caused some areas in Lang Son to be submerged in floodwater.
By the evening of August 23, many neighborhoods and roads in Luong Van Tri and Tam Thanh wards continued to be deeply flooded due to prolonged heavy rain.
During the night, the river water level almost touched the bottom of Ky Cung bridge. To help people have safe flood shelters, some accommodation establishments such as A1 guesthouse, An Son, and Trieu Ky Vong hotel have opened for free, supporting people.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Binh - an employee of Trieu Ky Vong hotel in the center of Lang Son province said: "The establishment still has 9 empty rooms, so it decided to open the door for free to welcome people to avoid floods. During the night, the water rose high, so many people did not have a safe place to stay. Seeing our compatriots struggling, we supported them with whatever we could. We hope the flood will pass so that everyone can stabilize their lives".
Also according to Mr. Binh, the group prioritized are the elderly, young children or households living in low-lying areas, at high risk of flooding and landslides.
Similarly, guesthouse A1 has 36 rooms for people, while guesthouse An Son has 80 rooms.
Avoiding floods at guesthouse A1, Ms. Nong Thi Hien (residing in Muoi street, Tam Thanh ward) said that she and her relatives were supported by soldiers to be taken to a safe place when the floodwaters rose.
I was very happy to hear that guesthouse A1 provided free accommodation for people. The house was deeply flooded to the level of people, in the house, besides adults, there were also 4-year-old and 8-month-old grandchildren. The soldiers encouraged us and came to our house to welcome us here. I only had time to bring clothes, instant noodles and some necessary food," Ms. Hien recounted.
And Ms. Hoang Thi Nhan (Tam Thanh ward) said: "At about 7:30 pm, the water rose quickly while the rain was still very heavy. At that time, we were very panicked, but the on-duty soldiers helped take our children to a safe place. Although worried, thinking about the safety of our family, we decided to leave immediately. Two days of power outages, life is very difficult. Coming here, everyone feels much more secure.
According to a quick report from Lang Son province, as of 5 pm on August 23, natural disasters killed one person and affected 4,031 houses and auxiliary works.
Among them, 362 houses had their roofs blown off, fallen trees or landslides; 3,623 houses were flooded, and many properties were damaged.
