Dead sturgeon covers the lake surface, Lang Son people lose billions of VND

Lang Son - Rain and floods clouded water sources, causing about 28 tons of sturgeon about to be sold in Ba Son commune to die en masse.

On the morning of August 23, the sturgeon farming lake of Mr. Giang Van Tai's family, 66 years old, in Ban Le village was covered with dead fish.

The surviving ones floated close to the water surface, weakening after two days of floodwaters overflowing.

Sharing with PV, Mr. Tai said that his family invested in many sturgeon farming ponds from seed to commercial weight.

After about 20 months of care, the school of fish has met the standards for sale, but prolonged heavy rain caused floodwaters to carry mud and soil into the lake. The water source turned cloudy, fish began to turn their bellies and then gradually died.

About 28 tons of fish are considered completely lost, estimated damage is about 3-4 billion VND," Mr. Tai said.

To recover a part of the capital, his family and local authorities called on people to buy the remaining fish for use at a price of 50,000 VND per kg.

However, consumption is difficult due to the inter-village road through Ban Le stream being cut off by floods, causing the area to be almost isolated.

According to Mr. Tai, many people call to register to buy fish but cannot enter the village. The amount of fish consumed is currently mainly due to local people buying in small quantities. If not transported and preserved in time, the fish will spoil, causing further damage.

Leaders of Ba Son commune said that all sturgeon farming ponds in the area were affected by floods. The two households most heavily damaged are the families of Mr. Giang Van Tai and Mr. Duong Van Minh.

The commune government has posted information, calling on people, restaurants and collective kitchens to support the consumption of fish. The selling price is agreed upon at 50,000 VND per kg, applied to small fish weighing 0.5-0.7 kg per fish and large fish from 2 to 3.5 kg per fish.

According to a quick report from Lang Son Provincial People's Committee, as of 11:00 AM on August 23, floods due to the impact of storm No. 4 have caused one death.

The whole province recorded about 3,068 houses and auxiliary works affected. Of which, 221 houses had their roofs blown off, damaged or affected by landslides; about 2,816 houses were flooded and 31 auxiliary works were damaged.

Faced with the complicated developments of natural disasters, local authorities have evacuated more than 2,000 households from areas at risk of deep flooding, flash floods and landslides.

Many residential areas in That Khe, Trang Dinh, Na Sam, Van Lang communes and Dong Kinh, Tam Thanh, Ky Lua, Luong Van Tri wards are deeply flooded, greatly affecting people's lives and property.

About 1,300 business households at Gieng Vuong market and Ban Nga market, Ky Lua ward, were flooded, damaging goods.

Military forces, police, militia and local forces have supported about 650 households and businesses at Gieng Vuong, Ban Nga and Dong Kinh markets to move people and property to safe places.

Floods also caused over 2,500 hectares of agricultural and forestry crops to be flooded and broken. More than 100 cattle and over 6,000 poultry died, while damage to aquaculture is still being reviewed.

On traffic routes, more than 700 landslide and flooding points have appeared, causing congestion and localized division. In dangerous locations, functional forces have erected barriers, placed warning signs, and arranged people to be on duty, not allowing vehicles to pass when safety is not guaranteed.
