In recent days, more than a hundred dairy cows in Lam Dong have died. This makes farmers here extremely worried because cows are their livelihood.
Mr. Vo Dinh Viet (Tu Tra commune, Don Duong district) had a herd of 76 dairy cows, but 2 of them died. The rest have lost their appetite, have fever, and have poor milk production... so Mr. Viet can't help but feel sad. In recent days, Mr. Viet and his wife have had to run around all day to take care of the cows' illness.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Minh De's family in Tu Tra commune also had many cows that died. Even Mr. Viet's household was considered the most severely damaged in the commune.
Mr. De said that from July 20 until now, he has vaccinated 51 dairy cows. Among them, 4 adult dairy cows died, 8 pregnant cows were sick and had miscarriages.
To increase resistance and treat other cows, Mr. De spends 2 - 15 million VND every day. Fact-finding shows that the cases of Mr. De and Mr. Viet are just two representatives of dozens of other households that are also raising dairy cows.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province, up to now there have been nearly 5,000 cows sick, over 200 have died. The number of dead cows was mainly in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts.
Currently, a cow giving milk is worth 40 - 60 million VND. These losses are not only for dairy households, but also for the agricultural sector of Lam Dong province.
It is necessary to quickly stabilize production for the people
In recent days, functional agencies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee have worked continuously to quickly find the cause of the disease in the cows and minimize damage.
According to Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, since the announcement and implementation of the regimen, 45% of sick cows have gradually recovered. This proves that the regimen has met the situation of curing cows.
Meanwhile, Don Duong District People's Committee and Duc Trong District People's Committee also confirmed that the number of dead cows began to decrease, and the herd of cows showed signs of gradually recovering.
Notably, Lam Ha district was the first place to organize vaccination against lumpy dermatitis in the entire province and had the earliest death of dairy cows. But so far, the district has only had 2 cows die and the remaining cows have been treated stably.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee said: "Immediately after implementing the treatment regimen, the sick cow gradually recovered. The province has coordinated electrolyte water and drugs in the treatment regimen to treat sick cows in a timely manner. A special working group was established and is constantly on duty in localities to promptly support the situation of sick cows."
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc, Acting Secretary of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, also directed functional units to save compensation and support plans for damaged people. “We must put people's rights and property first, and not let people be disadvantaged. There needs to be appropriate scenarios to quickly stabilize production for the people," Mr. Hoc added.
