Many Gen Z dream of their first job

Thanh Bình |

Many young people of Gen Z say they can only stay with a business for 2-3 months, for various reasons they quickly change jobs.

After graduating, Le Phuong Anh (22 years old, Hanoi) quickly found a suitable job in the communication field with a salary of 8.5 million VND/month. However, after only 2 months of probation, Phuong Anh had to regretfully write a resignation letter.

"The workload is too large compared to the salary. There are days when there is a product launch, I work until 2-3 am without being paid additional allowances" - Phuong Anh shared.

In addition to her full-time job and taking advantage of her summer vacation, Phuong Anh also teaches children MC skills. Income during peak times is quite stable, but unstable: "At the end of the summer, the number of students decreases, income is unstable. Moreover, there is no social insurance payment regime, so it is difficult to stay with them for a long time".

In just the 2 months Phuong Anh has worked at the company, the number of employees quitting her job has reached 6.

Not only Phuong Anh, many young people also choose to seek a new job after a probationary period due to problems with corporate culture.

After 2 months of probation, Nguyen Tri Quang (character's name has been changed - PV) also wrote a resignation letter. "After the probationary period, many positions in the vacant group, I have to concurrently take on the remaining jobs but the salary remains the same".

In addition, internal regulations make it difficult for Quang to integrate: "In addition to work, all employees have to attend a reading session lasting 30-40 minutes a day. Many weekly meetings are held all morning, taking up unnecessary amount of time."

Although the official working hours from 9am to 4:30pm are quite convenient for travel, according to Quang, the regulations and internal culture of the company are taking up most of the working time.

Meanwhile, the friendly environment and suitable work are still not enough to keep Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga (25 years old, Hai Phong). The main reason is that the actual salary does not match the initial recruitment information.

"The recruitment notice was posted with a salary of 13-15 million VND/month, but after two months of probation, I was only offered a job at 10 million VND/month. Meanwhile, this position does not require experience from the beginning and all of my tasks are completed" - Ms. Nga expressed.

Not long after Ms. Nga considered retiring, the company also announced the closure of its office in Vietnam in November due to insufficient maintenance funding.

From a business perspective, sharing with reporters, Ms. Bui Thi Thu Trang - Recruitment Specialist of A&T Group, A&T Vietnam Technical Trading Investment Joint Stock Company said: "Generation Z tends to change jobs faster than previous generations. The reason comes from the members of Gen Z themselves and the employers and businesses.

The previous generation was often still reserved and tended to choose stable jobs. Gen Z people are capable of working independently, multi-talented, creative freely, have a lot of personality and want to experience many jobs and environments" - Ms. Trang added.

According to Ms. Trang, the current labor market is quite vibrant, Gen Z people are willing to quit their jobs to find a new working environment.

On the business side, Ms. Trang said: "During the process of posting recruitment information, the job description was not clear enough, leading to a situation where candidates felt "disillusioned" when the actual situation arose compared to the original description.

From the employer's perspective, Ms. Trang commented that job-hopping is not necessarily a negative thing. However, Gen Z is constantly changing jobs, employers will somewhat evaluate candidates as lacking perseverance, lack of commitment to stick together, becoming a minus point in the eyes of businesses.

"The decision to 'replace' personnel to quit will cause significant losses for businesses, when experienced people have to work as part-time workers, both instructing and taking on additional work left behind.

On the other hand, if a position is constantly recruited, businesses and management departments need to seriously review the salary and bonus policy as well as the job description to retain staff" - Ms. Trang shared.

Another mid-level manager shared with reporters that the issue of starting salary and meetings is just a problem. Gen Z seeks a meaningful job, where they are listened to and truly value-added. Reckless meetings or formal reading are considered a waste of time.

This generation values transparency, trust and wants space to express themselves. They need to be recognized, instead of being over-supervised. Relationships with managers are also very important; a boss who knows how to listen and empower will be the factor to keep them.

In the long term, Gen Z is interested in development paths and learning opportunities. They will leave if they feel stuck in place, especially when the company lacks training programs or is not transparent about promotion opportunities.
