The river water is flowing very fast, dragging along buoys of stuck vehicles, posing a potential risk of sinking barges and ships and affecting the infrastructure of Vinh Phu bridge.
After receiving the information, leaders of Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc provinces went to the scene to direct the handling of the incident.
In addition, the army, police and many other forces were also mobilized to set up barriers at both ends of the bridge, temporarily preventing vehicles from passing through the bridge before the incident is handled.
In the proposed options, the authorities will try to rescue the stranded ships and barges, but will not rule out the possibility of approaching the ship, sinking the ship's hold, and drilling, dismantling and collapsing the ship to ensure the safety of Vinh Phu bridge and minimize damage.
According to the reporter's investigation, Vinh Phu bridge crosses the Lo river connecting Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province and Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc province. This bridge with a total investment of more than 540 billion VND was inaugurated and put into use from August 2023.
Vinh Phu Bridge is over 509m long, of which the main bridge is about 290m long, the approach bridge on Phu Tho province side is 70.75m long, the approach bridge on Vinh Phuc province side is about 148.8m long.
The bridge is designed with 4 lanes for motor vehicles, the main bridge width is 19m, the approach bridge width is 16.5m.
