Going with the Hoanh Bo volunteer team, present at Da Trang village on September 11, according to the reporter's observation, although the water has receded, Ba Sao hamlet is still cut off by flood water, the only means of transport to enter the hamlet are boats.
Ba Sao Hamlet has about 46 households, including many elderly people and children.
Mr. Ta Van Tuan, Da Trang hamlet, Thong Nhat commune (Ha Long city) recounted: “After storm No. 3, two consecutive big floods came to the hamlet on September 9-10, causing many houses in the hamlet to be flooded up to the roof, sweeping away property, furniture, and vehicles. After the water receded, a horizontal house and a 100m2 kitchen of my family collapsed, leaving behind 1m of mud and dirt.”
Approaching Da Trang village since September 10, Mr. Nguyen Huy Nam, a member of the Hoanh Bo Volunteer Club, said: “Compared to yesterday, the water has receded, making travel more convenient, but for Ba Sao hamlet, the volunteer force can only send supplies through the village chief who will gradually row them in by boat. According to the village chief, what the people of Ba Sao hamlet need most right now are flashlights, mini gas stoves, and blankets. The reason is that, in the past few days, the power grid has been cut off, flashlights have become useful items for lighting and connecting at night, mini gas stoves are very mobile for people to cook.”
Currently, local authorities and many social organizations and unions are working with people to clean up mud and soil that has flooded into houses and schools, actively implementing measures to clear trees in streams and overflow tunnels... and clearing the flow to drain water and overcome flooding.
Although the water has now receded, the entire area is still deeply submerged. Food and drinking water are temporarily supplied by boats. According to local residents, the floodwaters began rising on the night of September 9, with some areas being more than 3 meters deep.
The households in Dong Chanh hamlet suffered the most damage when the flood swept away most of their properties, and their houses and barns were completely damaged. Families living around the village cultural house also had floodwaters up to the first floor, and many properties were swept away.
After storm No. 3 and heavy rains, the water level in Da Trang village, Thong Nhat commune, Ha Long city rose, causing many property losses for local people. Currently, recovery work is being actively implemented.
Local authorities said that the property damage of the people of Da Trang village, Thong Nhat commune, in this flood was very large, although exact statistics are not yet available. In the coming days, the local Party Committee and government will mobilize all resources, from support sources from the city, organizations and philanthropists, to join hands to help people gradually overcome the damage and return to normal life.
