It is forecasted that the water level on the rivers will continue to rise. In particular, the water level on the Day River is forecast to reach 4.10 - 4.30 m in the next 12 - 24 hours.
According to Ninh Binh Hydrometeorological Station, at 6:00 a.m. on September 12, 2024, the water level on Hoang Long River at Ben De was 4.61 m (0.61 m above alarm level 3), at Gian Khau 4.23 m (0.53 m above alarm level 3);
Day River in Ninh Binh, measured water level is 4.0m (above alarm level 3: 0.50m), above flood peak in 2017: 0.06m.
It is forecasted that in the next 12 - 24 hours, the water level on Hoang Long River at Ben De and Gian Khau will continue to rise; at Ben De, it is likely to rise to 4.80 - 5.00m (above alert level 3: 0.80 - 1.00m); at Gian Khau, it will rise to 4.30 - 4.50m (above alert level 3: 0.60 - 0.80m).
On the Day River in Ninh Binh, the water level continues to rise to 4.15 - 4.35 (above alert level 3: 0.65 - 0.85m).
Rising river water levels combined with heavy rains caused widespread flooding in the riverbanks and communes of Gia Tien, Gia Hung, Gia Thinh; 2 schools in Kenh Ga hamlet, Gia Thinh commune (outside the dike), Gia Vien district; low-lying residential areas in Xich Tho, Gia Thuy, Lac Van, Gia Lam, Dong Phong communes of Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh city.
Flash flood and landslide warning in mountainous areas, steep slopes, communes in Nho Quan, Hoa Lu districts, Tam Diep city. Flood disaster risk reaches level 3.
Rising floodwaters caused widespread flooding, greatly affecting people's lives and production. Although they are used to floods, people in flooded communes were still surprised by the large amount of water this year.
Property was damaged and lost, all work was suspended, traffic was cut off for many days, students had to stay home from school or travel by small boat in the middle of the vast water, which was very dangerous.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Binh, after storm No. 3, the whole province recorded about 500 hectares of rice being damaged, more than 100 hectares of vegetables being crushed, 11 hectares of forest being damaged, nearly 50 hectares of ponds, rice and fish being flooded, and many fruit trees and shade trees being broken and fallen.
To proactively overcome the consequences and minimize damage caused by storms, Ninh Binh's agricultural sector has been coordinating with relevant units to focus on directing and guiding farmers to restore production after storms.
In particular, special attention should be paid to the winter-spring rice areas in the stage of panicle initiation and flowering. Priority must be given to drainage. Absolutely do not let these areas be flooded, otherwise it will cause waterlogging and panicle rot.
