Nho Que river water changes color after heavy rain days

Tuyen Quang - After prolonged heavy rain, the Nho Que river water changed from clear blue to cloudy, flowing swiftly.

The Nho Que River originates from the Nghiem Son mountains (China), flows to Vietnam and weaves through the most dangerous terrain of the Dong Van Karst Plateau.

Famous for its jade green water, the river flows through the foot of the treacherous cat ear cliffs of the Tu San ravine hundreds of meters deep. This is also a place that attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists every time they come to the rocky plateau.

However, entering the rainy and flood season, the water flow often changes to cloudy color.

Recorded by PV in the last days of July 2026, after prolonged heavy rains, the water of the Nho Que River from jade green has become cloudy.

A large amount of mud and soil from the mountainsides and streams flows in, causing the river to quickly change color. Seen from above, the river stretches out, winding around.

Despite rainy and windy weather conditions, many tourists still choose to take boats to see the Nho Que river and Tu San alley.

Due to weather conditions, the tour to see the Nho Que River is shortened. Although the water is muddy, tourists are still excited to take a boat through the majestic rocky mountains.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (tour guide in Dong Van) said that heavy rain for many days brought mud and soil, causing the water to be cloudy.

Usually, when entering the rainy and flood season, the water flow of the Nho Que River will be like that, mainly in July, August, September. After each rain spell, it takes about 5-7 sunny days for the water flow to return to normal.

Many tourists from afar come, if they don't understand clearly, they will be surprised to see that the Nho Que water is different like that," Mr. Thanh said.

Also according to Mr. Thanh, entering the rainy and flood season, tourists should prepare carefully when exploring the Dong Van Karst Plateau.

Especially, it is necessary to ensure safety when boating to admire the Nho Que River or moving between slippery mountain passes. Each season, the beauty of the highlands of Tuyen Quang has its own unique features that make tourists excited.
